The course focuses on developing fluency with spelling the 300 most common words. Spelling should not be difficult, but it is for many students requiring concentration which can't happen while composing. This is designed to help students who won't write much and can't spell well easily.Â
Many students make spelling errors (of words they know how to spell) when they are trying to focus on what they are communicating. When spelling is easy, confident, and fluent students can compose or write easily without being distracted by having to think about how to spell words. That's what these lessons are designed to develop--fluency spelling the 300 most common words in the English language.Â
The placement test will identify where students should start. The placement test requires them to write an entire sentence from memory, which is similar to the task of composing sentences. It will show where students begin to make errors when they are not entirely focused on spelling. This is where they begin to practice.
Students can work in pairs, and exchange roles after ten minutes making for a 20-minute session. If a tutor is available, then the tutor can do the dictation for ten minutes and then add up the points earned.
You should have students take the included placement test to determine where to begin.
