Now that you have experienced the process, I will review the key components and share a few examples of how I and others have used the Prosocial ACT Matrix.

The ACT Matrix is a process used to establish a mindful point-of-view. It does this by establishing a visual diagram with some simple language to increase psychological flexibility so learners and others can go on and try out behaviors that help them move closer to who and what is important to them.

Here are the steps to enhance learning, collaboration, and success:

  1. Get the Matrix up in front of your learners. You don't teach the Matrix, you show it to them so they can experience the mindful process for themselves.
  2. Do Loop 1 with them to promote psychological flexibility.
  3. Establish Noticing as a mindful behavior for present moment awareness and perspective-taking to build up the Observer Self
  4. Do Loop 2 with the group to establish shared purposes and psychological safety.
  5. Use Sorting to continue to promote psychological flexibility and extend mindful actions into everyday interactions and experiences.
  6. Apply Workability which allows learners to look at themselves and the consequences of their actions over time. They learn to ask, "Is what I'm doing working to help me get where I want to go and become the person I want to be?". Workability is repeated each and every day in the lived experiences of their lives. Workability is also applied to the shared purposes of groups and everyone in the group is given the responsibility to monitor how the group is doing and offer feedback in an ongoing way.
