DESCRIPTION:
Why do we study mathematics? There are the mundane reasons; to file our taxes, balance our budgets, or build a space shuttle. Yet, as the philosophers of Ancient Greece, we can rather easily become mathematical scientists and see that concrete relationships exist between me as a being, my physical body, and the earth/cosmos. This is quietly found in our systems of measurement - pounds, gallons, inches and hours.
Course participants will create and explore basic shapes of nature and the cosmos, scientifically explore these forms and make an amazing discovery. They will consider the manner in which particles, star systems, and advanced biological structures form. They will see and wonder.
This class looks at the microscopic and the macro, showing extensive, expansive relationships; using very basic mathematical terms and processes we all learned in high school. The few processes used are well-explained and easy to follow, from a very experienced and gifted teacher used to people...
