The Vacation Home Design and Maintenance Seminar can be taken as a stand-alone seminar or as part 2 of a four-part series for students who wish to earn the STR Certification.
This online self-study option offers flexibility, allowing you to complete the modules in this seminar at your own pace and from almost any location. Most students complete the video lectures and quizzes in about three hours.
This course is offered at a significantly reduced registration cost in response to requests from city officials to educate the city's STR license applicants (as a community service). If it were provided through the coaching channel, a university course, or a boot camp, the tuition would be more than ten times higher.
Hosting guests for short stays in a home requires much more than a listing on a popular reservation website (like Vrbo or Airbnb). This seminar outlines best practices for features, routines, protocols, safety measures, policies, resources, and other strategies that foster top-rated guest experiences and STR profitability.
The Vacation Home Design and Maintenance Seminar reviews:
Students who successfully complete the Vacation Home Design and Maintenance Seminar will receive a Certificate of Seminar Completion. It can be a stand-alone seminar (equivalent to the live or live via Zoom seminar versions) or the second segment (Part 2) of the more comprehensive STR Certification Course (12-14 hours in total, with this seminar as part 2 of four seminars).
The highly rated and popular STR Certification Course is ranked among national and international "Top Ten" training course lists for STR and property management. The full STR Certification Course has been reviewed and approved through Higher Education Divisions and Real Estate Commissions in several states. The content is secure from the influence of commercial interests. No sponsorships, endorsements, or advertisements are accepted or allowed. Certain brands or locations may be mentioned in discussions or used as examples for instructional purposes. Students must complete their own research before making business decisions.
This seminar may be part of the approved education requirement for applicants wishing to obtain an STR/STVR/VH business license, registration, or permit in several cities. Some states may also allow for real estate CE. The curriculum contains the core information officials want STR owners, hosts, property managers, realtors, and vendors to know. A student who provides a certificate of seminar completion during the application process indicates to the officials that they understand core STR practices.
For many people, Vacation Home/Short-Term Rental (STR) management appears to be as simple as creating an Airbnb, Booking.com, or Vrbo listing. But STR is much more complicated. It isn't "passive income" or a business that can be remotely managed. STR owners and managers are responsible for the safety of guests. And poorly managed STRs also negatively affect other STR hosts, sister industries, and local communities. STR requires planning, sound business management, regulatory compliance, clear communication, and appropriate monitoring of each guest's stay. In this seminar, we review resources, laws, practical tools, systems, and best practices that can help hosts manage code-compliant, safe, enjoyable, and profitable STR businesses.

If students are completing the full STR Certification, they should finish Part 1, the STR Laws and Essential Best Practices Seminar, before beginning this Part 2 online self-study seminar. (The Vacation Home Design and Maintenance Seminar is Part 2 in a four-part series of seminars equivalent to the 2-day STR Certification Course.)
If you are taking this course as a stand-alone seminar, there are no prerequisites for this class.
Students who register for this seminar can complete it in a day or can take up to 2 weeks from the registration date to complete the course (access closes upon completion of the seminar exam or after fourteen days).
Attendees must use a computer equipped with audiovisual capabilities and the ability to complete quizzes. This self-study course is divided into three modules, allowing flexibility to complete the coursework at your own pace and schedule.
Seminar students who completed the STR Laws and Essential Best Practices Seminar (Part 1) received a copy of the e-textbook, Vacation Rental Management 411. The e-textbook or the softcover book can also be ordered through the author, the publisher, or most online bookstores (see www.strcertification.com). The textbook isn't required for this seminar, but students report that it is a helpful resource during and after they complete the course.
The seminar course is pass/fail. Students must earn a score of at least 80% on the seminar exam (60% on the three module quizzes). This isn't a simple webinar that can be clicked through without actually learning the course content. The seminar contains vital information that STR owners and managers need to know.
To receive the Vacation Rental Home Design and Maintenance Seminar certificate, a student must:
Students taking this seminar as Part 2 of the four-part STR Certification Course must pass this and the other three STR seminars in the series, then pass the comprehensive STR Certification exam. The certificate you receive when you complete this course only applies to this seminar. It is not a STR Certification Course certificate, and the seminar certificate alone does not qualify for use within a city's STR license application process.
To be fair to all potential students, we cannot offer refunds for no-shows or cancellations. A $25 processing fee will be charged for qualifying changes to the registration.
