Thus far, we have discussed the two most prevalent and important marketing tools you will use in your job search to market your skills and convince hiring managers to grant you job interviews: résumés and cover letters. However, there are now so many additional ways to market and advertise your skills that are extremely effective and cost-efficient. Some of the tools we will cover in this section were not even in existence just a few years ago. Those tools that were available before, like business cards, used to be far more costly than they are today.
As with any form of advertising, it is all about repetition, repetition, repetition. If you have ever turned on the radio and heard a radio commercial that provides a phone number, you will notice that usually the number is repeated at least three times. Studies show that repetition leads to increased sales through advertising. Well, when marketing your skills, repetition is important as well. In this section we will look at some of the many other, either free or low-cost, venues you can use to advertise and promote your skills to gain the repetition you need to convey your message and land job interviews.
