Every single person on the planet is born with the inherent quality of worthiness and respect. Along with the inherent qualities of worthiness and respect, loving others and being loved is your Divine Right no matter what, simply because you are a human being.
Deep, real love is not earned, it is your Divine Right. It is not something you get rewarded with due to good behavior, and it is not something you achieve through multiple degrees or awards. However, the culture in which we are raised, and our upbringing determines our basic beliefs and fairytales about being worthy of love. 
We learned that we received love when we behaved in certain ways that met the approval of our authority figures. We were rewarded and loved for achieving good grades or doing things that made our parents proud and this learned behavior on how to earn love followed us into adulthood.
