Hey guys, welcome back to this section of the tutorial. So the version of Maya that I'm using is Maya 2018. But this rigs I believe will work with any version of Maya, I think from like 2010. Coming onwards, I am not quite sure, but I'm sure everyone has a hazmat interaction and above. And if you don't just access to the license, and use these rigs. So the first thing that I usually recommend for anyone starting out with let's just say you've studied a bit of animation and you've understood, you've understood how the animation system in my works.

First thing to do is to always make sure that you study you read, try and understand what your rig does the limitations of your rigs that you cannot anticipate very complex movements that your rig cannot achieve. So in this case we're doing simple stuff not doing I don't know, talking and all that. Maybe I can save that for future tutorial. So a simple rig like this will work fine for what we're doing. And I like it simplicity, I like the design, I guess overall, like the rig feels so tidy, make sure that you know what each and every control in your rig does before you go, or before you start animating. Now I Another thing I want to point out is you notice that I have a custom shell.

So you know, if you're beginning, this may be a little bit daunting, but these are just scripts you can find. I'm not really I'm not gonna lie and say that I'm good at scripting. So these are just scripts from other people that I'm using currently. And you can, I'm not going to provide them but as you work or as you continue working, you're going to find that you need shortcuts. So this stuff exists in Maya. So a good way to crouch short Custom the shelf.

So let's, let's, let's create a new shelf. So by going to this setting icon, new shell, let's call these test shell and say, Okay, this demand does not like not like pressing. So tests so like things like freezing your transformations, you can always hold down and I'm on a Windows system. So I think control is the Command key on the Mac. So if you hold down Control Command Shift, and in this case, I'm looking for freeze transformations. The minute you click, you notice that a shortcut appears on your shelf.

So that's how, that's how my custom shelf has a lot of shortcuts. Okay? Another way to add shortcuts to your shelf is by using the script editor. I know I see I'm not a I'm not good at scripting, but some of this stuff is quite easy to do. It's not a matter of use scripting, all you have to do is just make sure you clear everything. And whatever you do in mind is usually reflected in the script and this has to be in the script editor.

So you see I selected this control which controls the spine, I see anything I do, reflects. So if I was to clear out using either this these areas, these areas is the bottom part. This is the top part. So if I was to like, do what so if I go to that test shelf and select this control, then highlight this command the middle mouse, drag it on the shelf and save it as a male because it's a male. You see, all of a sudden I have a shortcut. So I have a shortcut for selecting my rig.

Okay, so I'm just going to right click in the course I don't really need it. So why am I talking About our shelves, it's because to save yourself some time in selecting because when you're animating, you need to make sure that you're keeping a lot of the stuff so that you cannot have some wonky or wobbly movements. So, what I usually do is I go to the script editor and I'm going to clear out everything. And in this case, I am going to highlight everything. And I am going to obviously don't do select this. I'm going to deselect this.

And this is now a command. If I was to press Ctrl A and you must drag it on the shelf. You see, he has created a shortcut where it's going to select everything. Okay, so you see, whenever I hit on that it selects everything so you created just shorten your time or you wouldn't have to waste a little time selecting everything again. So if you right click and say Edit good show This case, Mercedes selects, the tooltip selects, they bony rig and the icon labeled college morning. You can choose to mess around some colors.

Let's give it a tinge of popcorn and kind of a background. That works well. And yeah, so you can always always name up here, but I'm going to assembly index I'm going to say stable job. And as you can see now I have a neat control where I can always come and select my rig. So as you can see, that will really save you a lot of time. Another way of creating selection sets is by just going to create select Set.

Quick Select Set, and it's going to add is basically like the same thing and what I'm doing and it's going To add the empty shell, it's only that I'm used to selecting things manually. Now the thing about this rig is, is that it does have an fk system. So let's check, it's going to see these are fk, and i k switch. So I'm going to turn these ones on. Because the minute I selected, the minute I selected everything, I did not select a ik control. So you can always be sure to make sure that unless like, double check that you don't have hidden controls, okay, so in this case, and I need to rename this and call this f k, so that I can know that this one is a selection set contains the F case.

So save ourselves, and we'll repeat the selection again. Let's go to the script editor, clear everything. So this one clears both the top and the bottom and I'm going to highlight everything the selected Global control, control a little mouse drag it to mail script. And then we'll say edits and the tooltip is like the bony rig, the bony rig with ik corn tools. Someone say bony ik that I can do that this one is I can it help that it's a different color. So fk ik, okay?

So that way when I when I'm animating and I switch to IKEA, I know that I have this other option and when I'm using FBA, I know that I have this other option. So other than that, I don't think I have anything else to talk about in this lesson. And our hope to see you in the next one.
