DESCRIPTION: 
While mothers are prepared for the Cesarean section they are asked to fast (unless it is an emergency where the mothers are directly taken for the surgery). Soon after the c-section, the mothers are kept in the recovery room for long hours where they are not given any form of food. The fasting and recovery period slows down the metabolism and the peristalsis of the intestine, in turn causing accumulation of air.
Additionally, the parturient is given medication to help them through the surgery. These medications can include anesthesia, antibiotics, and more depending on their condition and need before, during, or after surgery. Some anesthesia that is administered paralyzes the muscles in the body temporarily and thus the abdominal muscles&rsquo; movement is inhibited as well.
