DESCRIPTION: Modern new mothers are complaining about some of the traditional practices during the confinement period, some of them are good to follow but some might adapt to the needs of the modern ways.

1. Shampoo and bath: Make it fast and ensure that the bathroom is warm enough.
2. Air conditioning: Parturients sweat a lot, but they are suggested to stay at a warm temperature as long as they are not sweating.
3. Avoid salt, oil, and sugar: Salt, oil, and sugar are necessary for maintaining body health, but these seasonings are too much for patients in the first stage of the postpartum confinement period. A tiny bit of these seasonings is accepted in the postnatal meal.
4. Avoid over-drinking of water: Pain water is not suggested, but fluid is necessary for normal health especially to avoid dehydration and constipation. Chinese medication suggests barley water and red bean water for parturients to reduce swelling but at the same time to hydrate the body.
5. Avoid cold food and drinks:...
