DESCRIPTION: 
Lochia is vaginal discharge during the postpartum period. It consists of blood, tissue shed from the lining of the uterus, and bacteria. After birth, the parturients will have lochia discharge which contains a fair amount of blood in a bright red color similar to the heavy period flow. It may come out intermittently or flow more evenly. The color of the discharge will fade as the days pass by and by the tenth day, the color of the discharge will be white. The discharge will have a distinct foul odor which is similar to menstrual blood. Anything that exceeds the normal amount, or changes in color or smell, and prolonged time, are regarded as abnormal.
Firstly, poor uterine contractions, birth canal laceration, residual placenta, fetal membrane or deciduas, infection of uterine incision.
