Fluids are an essential part of the diet for new mothers to stay hydrated. Fluids like soups give a variety of nutrients and are easy to digest. Soups with simple ingredients like fish or egg are good for parturient on the first few days after childbirth. No salt or less salt is recommended. Salt retains water in the body and will prevent the excretion of excess water from the body which in turn will cause edema after childbirth.
Avoid oil in the soups; oil increases the amount of fat in breast milk. Too much fat in the milk may cause the newborns to have diarrhea when their digestive function has not yet completely developed.
