Security is defined as the condition of being protected against hazards, threats, risks or loss. Security Management is the identification of an organization's assets, followed by the development and documentation and implementation of policies and procedures for protecting these assets.

A security manager is therefore defined as an employee or contractor with an oversight or management level responsibilities for the security of an organization's assets such as people, property, information and reputation.
