It is important to ensure fairness and policy adherence in any security operation. After all, a security department where employees are not following proper protocols can quickly erode the trust of the entire organization in the abilities of the manager. There are three documents that can help managers maintain order, fairness and equitable employment in their departments. The first is the ESOP this standard operating procedures. This document is a set of rules related to specific job duties, such as what time nightly patrols are to be conducted, or how to respond to a specific emergency. The CBA the collective bargaining agreement, this document applies to workplaces where security guards are unionized.

This document outlines policies on vacation uniforming hours and conditions of employment, and other human resource related aspects. And the employee handbook, as this document given to every employee of the company, typically on a commission announcement of employment specifies the do's and don'ts of the company, including standards for address and department reporting health and safety issues, tardiness, forms of violence and harassment, etc. as a security manager knowing in detail these rules and regulations will help you conduct effective disciplinary meetings with your employees make informed arguments and decisions related to employees conduct under your watch and reduce reputational risks for you, your department, your employees and your organization. It is important that once you master these rules and regulations that you communicate, educate and make available these rules and regulations to your subordinates, supervisors and staff
