Right now we are in this more advanced section. And mostly, I will be showing you some creative ways how you can work with lines and colors using selections and mask, mostly masks, because that's what Photoshop is all about. And I won't be showing you all of the things about mass that you're not going to use. I'm going to show you just these few things that are most powerful, and you will be using so much often in your work with Photoshop. So, first of all, we are talking often about selections and changing the background. So why not to start with the technique that allows you to actually change the color background, maybe the lights on the background, and using just a few simple steps.
So first of all to do something can often create some adjustment layer Must be it will be curves let's call it test for now, it will be curves and this is only to make the selection we not even go into work much with this but we use in this adjustment layer right now to make some selection to create a mask which we can copy later on. And next step is choosing select. So we still have selections, and then go to color range. And what we have over here on the top in the option Select open this you can see sampled colors you have many other colors but what we are interested about right now is this sampled colors option. Then think about the colors you would like to replace the columns you'd like to work with. And then locate them on the image and heat ones.
As you can see it easily pick up our background because we are talking about changing the background and working with devices. Count, though, it's not perfect selection because over here, as you can see we have this gray area, so it's difficult to locate all background points. So I will use this eyedropper with little class over here. I'm going to pick this up and hit maybe somewhere here to make a little bit better selection. Now my background is very clear, I'm going to hit OK. And nothing happened to the image of course, because there must be created this the selections recreated actually is only visible on the mask. We have to change this a little bit because the white areas are visible all over the image.
And as you know, the white areas are the ones that will be visible after you apply the effect and black areas will be the ones that are invisible. I'm going to press the to make it a black and white color over here and I'm going to then press X to switch into black. I'm going to paint The image, the areas that I don't want to have affected with the color black. So I'm going to paint all all over the portrait. As you can see, over here the hurt because I don't want it to be affected. And now the mask is really clear to me.
Let's hit option hit on the mask once again, nothing visible. So what could I do? One thing I could do if I want to work with curves, for example, brighten up the background, I could pull up the curve and make the background very bright, which is not really bad idea. But usually I work with luminosity to not affect the color but on the lines. So if you work with curves, often check luminosity blending mode, because normal blending mode also affect the colors and we want to effect on the light. So what more we can do.
I'm going to Lubricate this image, I'm going to call this number one, let's say it will be very clear. And I'm going to press Command and hit on my mask. So we're going to pick up selection from this mask. If you're working on Windows, it will be Ctrl. And hit on this. And then I'm going to create a mask on this later.
Just in case for example, we want to change the background color. Of course, we covered the face right now. So I need to press Command and I or control and I to invert this. And now we don't have background. So under this layer, I put place some nice looking background. And it's very important, of course, to choose the right color for it because we still have some affection from the past.
So I would go with maybe soft blue collar, why I'm choosing a blue collar for this image. Well, you You need to know with the skin tones blue collar always look nice. That's the rule number one. So I'm just going to choose some soft, nice color, maybe something on that course we don't have to apply this curve layer if we don't like or just lower that. And that would be very simple and very clear method how you can change the background using some creative techniques of creating masks. I believe all of this was very clear if you find yourself lost.
Remember, check if your masks are always selected. Check if your masks are well painted. And if you paint on the image, that means your mask is not selected.
