Of course, our main goal for this course is to make a new comfortable with masks and selections as a professional retoucher. I'm working with this all the time. But what about starting this course if you're very beginner let's understand the idea behind selection so not going to jump into selection tools straight away. And these basic selections to Quick Selection Tool and magic one tool. I want you to look at market tools. They will help you understand how the selection works as well they will help you in the future if you need to create some very basic design work like simple posters, work in our little if your photography do some brochures, I was doing this and it's actually a paid job.

And the knowledge required to this is super basic. So right now I opened very basic Background just wild backgrounds, you can just simply hit file new here, choose this size for your folder, I have background content as a white, it doesn't matter. And then just hit Create. I already opened this basic background. So what I want to do, let's have a look and let's start maybe with this rectangular marquee tool. So I just need to hit on the space and drag it down.

I can do this every direction down or on the right side in this case or if I want to make it straight, I press Shift and make this perfect rectangle. So after we did this selection, what we can do let's say you want to play something into this place or maybe just can't this out. So as I have right now selection, out, hit right And then choose Layer via copy just to present what I have, if I would like to leave them here, I could do cut out this area, but it's not never a good idea. So now I have empty background, and just this rectangle here, what I can do, I can below this area and create right now some different color which could be black, for example. So this is very basic thing how we cut out objects. And of course, you don't have to do this with empty background.

But you can do this with images right away. So let me do some step backs right now. I'm going to press Command, option and Zed and a few times to go back to the starting point. That was just to do step back press Command Option Zed, or hit Edit step backward. As you can see, here's the key words on the windows that would be Ctrl, Alt, and z. So we remove before we cut out only this small object.

And there's that now, for example, I will choose Elliptical Marquee Tool instead of the rectangle, of course, rectangular. So I have this wheel right now. And now I don't want to cut out this well, but I want to everything else be cut out. So I have now selection done. What I would do, I would hit tried. And I'm not going to lie or via copy, but I do select the inverse.

It's inverting my selection. So right now all of this background is selected. So now let's press right and layer we are copy and I'm going to make this background image visible. And as you can see, we have exactly opposite thing to what we did before. And below that we can create another layer with color and fill this with color black, for example. And that knowledge is actually very useful for some very basic design work.

It doesn't mean anything right now I'm just showing you the idea, of course behind selections, how it works for those who don't have any understanding of Photoshop. Okay, that's enough. Let's do again, few step backs. And let's say you once again want to have the wheel but you want to have soft edges. Now our edges are very straight. So on the toe for the selection, you have feather.

If I pull out the feather, let's do this strongly. 260 pixels, maybe there will be very nice cross between background and the will, you will see that I'm going to make the selection. Once again, I'm going to draw the shape using shaved. And I'm going to invert this once again, select inverse once again, hit right and layer copy, I'm going to take out the background. And as you can see, there is really nice crossing between the cutout objects in our background. And below that I'm going to create an empty layer with a color.

And it looks that way. So now you see very basic things about the selections. And in the next lesson, I would like to already start working quickly with basic selection tools and the real images to give you more sense, but for those who are looking for very simple treats to do some ratings on the images that that's for you. And you can use this in many different ways.
