Remember that shadows and highlights can be used not only for and the fact of improving contrast but also if you have dark areas of the image that will allow you to create really nice and interesting effect. For example, this image has really dark shadows, so I feel it doesn't look. Alright maybe, to be honest, I think it looks alright. But if we want to change something that will give you some red nice opportunities, I would start in the same with curves. And I'm just going to call this shadows so you know, my intention already, I would go once again to image Apply Image as I was doing in previous lesson, and I'm going to start straightaway with invert. So I will have the mask from my shadows.
Let's have a look at option out. That's how the mask looks like. So you can see The shadows are white. I'm going to open my curve layer. And I'm going to do simple thing. I'm just going to bring this up a little.
So the image is actually getting very bright. I'm not sure right now if I'm going to keep normal or change bank not to luminosity because I like to find that my shadows got a little actually saturated. But, and as you can see also the roses. So it's not so bad if you look for some quick effect without much effort. That's quite a good way, isn't it? But now we lack in some contrast.
So I would actually go with simple curve, contrast. And out do this actually the same way as I was doing in previous lesson, but now I just want to quickly show you how we can resolve their lack of contrast issue of course. Changes to luminosity. And I'm going to put this into the group. I'm going to call this fix. And that was the image before very dark shadows and highlights are right and now the shadows are level up.
And the contrast absolute this image to me has actually a little bit more life if you feel the highlights are too bright, easily to take them down a little bit. And that's how I try to work with this effect is especially great if we would work with some a nature image. I feel I was working with this image some time ago. So with some forest images that will be really perfect way of working. checking if we could do some other example over here. We could try with this one, but I want If it's going to look right actually.
So let's go to image, Apply Image. And once again I'm going with invert and bring the shadows up. So as you can see, you don't change the model but you actually brighten it up. Everything was dark on the image. So if you struggle with too dark shadows, this simple technique that I was showing you to improve the contrast also will work. Perfect will bring up the dark spots of the image.
