A key part of preparing to speak is to work on your body. First of all, I want to look at relaxation. How do you get your body relaxed enough so that you can speak well? Well, anytime you're going to go onstage, I want you to take a bit of timeout to get all the tension out of your body. So do this with me. Now, roll your shoulders back and forward.
And while you're doing this, make sure that you carry on breathing. Just let the breath out. That's a lot to do with releasing tension in your body. Chewing is really good for relaxation as well. Just have a big to always be a bit stupid doing this. Okay.
And then I just want you to stretch as much as you can in any way that you need to that will get tension out of your body. And a key part of stretching and moving is in the hips. The hips, in terms of holistic work are attached to the And we often get real jaw tension. So we've just done the chewing to release that. We also need to release the hip. So anything you can do hula hooping, dancing, anything like that is good.
And just before I go on stage, I very often just move from foot to foot in a kind of Rocky Balboa way that lights me off as well for going on stage but I know it's releasing the tension in my body and allowing the adrenaline to go somewhere else other than making my voice shake or making me go really rigid. So make sure that your body is relaxed before you go on to speak.
