Alright guys, in this video I am going to show you the basics of Photoshop brushes. So I already have a document open, you might want to open one yourself if you want to play along or just watch that's up to you. Alright, so let's go to our brush and here the Photoshop brushes that we loaded in the setting up video. So I was going to go down the list as you see this one's called a large round. It's a large round brush, zooming a little and it might not look large around this zoomed in but this is the bigger one and you can see it you know fades out at the end and the If you put pressure and then release the pressure you can go get different tones. And also, here is a little trick, another keyboard shortcut that you might want to jot down.

If you look at the keyboard, the two keys next to the piece which are brackets, if you use these, they can adjust the size I've used the right one, hold that down. It makes it bigger. So now you can do strokes like this. Also, and of course, just add a little bit to the left one make a little smaller. So this way you can get a variety of sizes. Let's select all and filled with white And then the other thing with the bracket one if you hold down shift and do the brackets, and then say like hit the left bracket.

Hold that down. Now instead of getting smaller, it gets smoother. So now you got this nice fuzzy brush to get nice soft strokes in there. Because if you want something that's a little bit harder, you need to shift and do the right bracket. And you can get something a little bit harder but still that soft. And you can do that with most round brushes.

You can adjust the softness and hardness. It's very useful. So there's that one. All right. Now this one, which I call the small round Now this one is similar to the last one, I don't make a little bit bigger. But not only does it fade off at the edges, you put pressure it gets much thicker.

So this way, not only can you get a couple different tones, you get different thicknesses. And again, you can, you know, make it soft to just like the other one. So, there's that one. The next one I have on here, this one, a fine brush. I'm gonna make a little bit bigger. This one like the other one to get, you can get bigger and then taper down and get different thicknesses, but you'll notice it's all one tone.

They just do nice little strokes. Like that, and these are like the these are the very basic brushes that I tend to use on everything. There's the why I'm using it for this basic tutorial. Alright, and then this next one, this one's a very special brush. Now watch. When you look at like, Oh, that's not that nice.

Well, reason for that is, is because this isn't really meant to be used as a brush. It's meant to be used. If you hit our nest the smudge tool and you select that on the smudge tool. Make a little bit bigger. And you can see you can smooth out the edges and when you have it underneath the you'll have a harder edge on this one knows it'll keep an edge to the smudge a little bit of an edge if you actually want to blend it so it's soft shift to the left bracket. Now we have a soft edge.

Now when you go over the edge see it gets a nice blurred edge to it. And that's the purpose of this one. All right, so let's close this window for now. Don't save. Alright, now I'm going to hit command O. I'm going to open up all the files that are included with this video texture open. Right and then this is just a scan of a piece of paper and I took an ink pad Know the kind that you would use with an old fashioned stamp.

I just got that as an auction craft store. And then I just took a paper towel, crumpled it up, dipped it into the ink and then just kept it on the paper creating these little texture swatches. So I'm going to do, I'm gonna turn one of these into a brush. I'm going to select one of these, go to the lasso, and I'm just going to do a little selection around that. Then I'm going to go up to edit Define Brush Preset. And I'm going to hit this I'm going to call this texture brush one.

Okay. Now I'm going to create a new document. When do 1015 at 400? Hit OK. Alright, now we're going to go back brushes so be brushes. As you can see, we have a new brush on that on there now. So try it out.

And that's what that's doing. I mean, it's all right. It's interesting. It's but it's not really necessarily anything exciting. So, let's do something else with this. I'm gonna clear that one.

Let's see here. Thank you Brian. Yes. All right. So then here we go. So you go to this brush palette here.

It looks like that. I mean it should want to go that's why this check in here, I believe is actually might just be brush making sure I got right yeah. So if you go to brush on the window, it opens this palette which allows you to edit some of the things here. First, I'm going to try a few things I'm going to Yeah, I'm gonna take down the spacing. So let's zoom in a little bit smaller. Now with no spacing, now we get a smoother interesting brushstroke than before.

This is a little bit more painterly now. All right, let's see what else we can play with it. So I like to play with brush a lot of times. I use it to procrastinate quite a bit, but it's also a helpful skill to experiment with. All right, well, let's try Shape Dynamics. I'm gonna put that to pen pressure.

Now we got that so I'm gonna try this. Yep, put some red on it. We can see it's now see it starts off small. I like it. Zoom in to the edge somewhere. Yeah.

But I kind of like that. But still not perfect brush Alright, let's try. No. Pen tilt. That's interesting. Okay, so put down pen tilt.

Let's that's just the minimum dinette diameter so it doesn't get quite as fine now let's try this let's get interesting. Still experiment. Don't do that does that's interesting. So And now we get a nice little rough edge to it. Kind of like that. I like that.

Now starting to turn into a decent brush, I could choose one. Remember to have brush on when I hit this All right, next one try one more thing with I think it's color dynamic maybe. No, that's not it. Transfer. That's right. They changed the name of it.

All right, I'm gonna put this one on pen pressure as well. So now let's try this. Oh yeah. See I like this. I think this brush is ready. Got a brushes.

Let's put the default size at 20. And actually, let's do a little bit bigger than that. Let's try 100 Yeah, like that. Okay and then I'm just going to do a new Brush Preset. Actually I'm going to call this one texture brush one now I'm going to go into preset manager. I don't want this plain one anymore.

So I'm going to delete that and I want to keep the blending brush at the end so I know that's separate sides move that up there and hit Done and Now that's what our brushes currently look like. I want to clear this go back this and if you want you can select some of these other ones try different texts you can get probably get a variety of brushes. And you know it's good way to experiment. Close this one. I'm gonna open up another file that lets me Commando. There we go.

Now this one I didn't include you'll see why This is similar to the last one but this is done with my thumbprint. And this is can be a fun way to kind of literally add your, you know, mark on to your coloring and they'll make a great texture too. So I'll pick one of these. Let's see which one looks well to find kind of like this one. So, and if you want a fingerprint one you can go ahead get nk and either scan it or also you could, you know, try taking a picture with your cell phone. I've done that a few times.

And I'm actually on try going on with levels dark in there. To find the print a little bit more get more texture out of it. That looks decent. Let's see. Add to that. Yeah, I think that'll work and then edit the wrong one.

Define Brush Preset. I'm going to call this one thumb, brush one. Okay. I'm gonna go to my blank document originally. Go to brushes. Okay, now we got the thumbprint.

And actually, that's almost kind of nice. Just like that creates a nice shape. The nice edge to it. But I'm going to play around with it so it's time I'm going to do scattering without Pen Pressure trust that we had count letter to me not doing much I'm gonna leave that alone off. Oh wait, I was doing something like that. So that's what it's doing now but To Shape Dynamics, and I'm going to turn angle later on.

And turn sighs later on. Let's try this now. Let's go to transfer again. pasty litter. Yeah. See?

Look at that. Now you can build up some textures here. try a different color to Oh yeah, see? Yeah, kind of like that. That is kind of almost like a little bit of a smoky effect. So I go into brushes and I will new Brush Preset.

I'm actually gonna call this dumb brush too cuz I'm gonna keep the first one. Hold on I want let's drop them down to 30 Yeah, that'll work. Brush Preset some brush, too. reduce the size of this one to about 35 in Brush Preset one back up to preset manager delete that big one. And for put those like that done now there's one more and I'm going to show you it's clear this is washed black. Alright now you know as colorist like if you're going to do a cover or pin up, you know it's like pencils and anchors that They'll find the work.

Well a colorist of course would want to do that as well. So, actually, it T for text. I don't know if you've seen mine. But if you've seen my work before, you'll notice I have a little ck symbol. Let's see, and that is actually a comic craft font if I can find it. Yes, I believe its name is adamantium.

Now, when I was one of the adamantium was I can't remember. Oh, let's just try one. Scroll through them. definitely wasn't that one. What happened to the talent? Oh, that's the talent.

Okay, Yeah, it was adamantium Fang for sure. Okay, so I'm just gonna do that. I'm going to merge those two layers and just like before edit Define Brush Preset. Call this signature sure rush. Wow brush tip shape there. So now I want to do messenger.

I just stamp it on All right, reduce this down to 100. See if I can refine this bit more I wonder if ice. Yeah, let's do that. That's better. Now Brush Preset center brush. Okay preset manager to get rid of that big one.

Done don't need these open anymore. Don't save, save and then this to go, I'm gonna say save brushes. And so let's put that basic brushes. And let's change it from basic to mod from modified, or you can name whatever you want. Save. And now we have a new Brush Preset to going forward.

So again, maybe some homework after this video is go ahead and play around with creating different types of brushes and experiment and add some to your brush list. I mean don't don't go too crazy. You don't want to have a whole bunch of brushes and not be able to find anything but Yeah, pies, create some interesting brushes and sound fun playing around with them.
