Hi, in this video, I'm going to show you some of the handy shortcuts that I'll be using throughout the rest of the course. I have two, I've created two handouts to go with this. One is called the quick reference guide, Photoshop keyboard shortcuts. And the other one is tool quick reference guide. Both of them are showing you just how to do things with just the keyboard. And that way, you don't have to actually select Tools manually or go into the menu options.

I do want to say this video, I'd consider it optional, because it's gonna be kind of boring, you might not want to sit through it, you can just use the you know, quick reference guide as we go through just so you can remember the frequently used keyboard shortcuts that I'll be using. I might be using more of these too. So as I go through the course you might want you have a pen handy so you can write down anything that I don't have on this list if I use them. But, you know, these are important for getting faster. So it's good to memorize these. So I'm going to go through them now that you want to, you know, sit and watch, you know, you can otherwise skip to the next one.

And I might skip around here too. Alright, so the first one, I'm gonna start with the quick reference guide, Photoshop keyboard shortcuts. So the first one on that list is command and, of course, on PCs, I believe, usually use Ctrl instead of command. So depending on what type of computer you're using, so I on Mac, its command n for new. Open up that one. Then, or if you want to open up a file you've already done you do command o find your file I cancel see close windows.

Is command w close the window, I want to keep it open. So I'm not actually going to do that one. That's the Save As command s or Save As. So you can actually write what you want it to be called. Typical keyboard commands Oh, see. See, undo redo is command Z.

Cut is command x, copy command C. actually hold I want to skip down with the fill. Let's you know we got the green color selected and fill is Option Delete. So that puts 100% fill in there. So now let's have a selection there and do a read option two and Okay, so now I can do like Command accepts cuts. So you see, or let's go back to undo command Z that's then or that can do command copy, command, copy, then there's command, paste. See, we've got around Alright.

Alright, so let's see. Now I'm going to let the free transform is Command T. So if you have something selected, hit Command T, and then you can resize it, transform it. levels is Command D slick that is command L. This you know See, can change the values with levels does cancel curves is command and that's another one and again, it will change the values but it does it. Different input way to do that. Cancel levels curves here alright command u lets you do Hue Saturation lightness, you can change colors stuff lightness and stuff. Invert, right command command I inverts the color new new layer and can see the layer palette down here.

Let's make babble a little bigger. So if I wanted a new layer Then I can do shift command n. Chris new layer it Okay, we have a new layer, yay. Layer via copy. So say I'll select layer one. And I want was on layer one to be on the new. So I can go Command J, and it creates a new layer with that.

Basically it copies what's on that layer and creates a new layer of it. Also, if say, on the background layer, I select the red circle and do Command J. It just makes a layer with my selection on there, oops, both microphones. Sorry about that. All right, there'll be a copy Okay, lock layer. You hit the dash or question mark button and that locks that one or not?

This is also the lock here. That's how you do it manually. So you can lock and unlock, basically lock makes it so see everything that's transparent on that layer, the part that's not on there, you can't draw on it. So if I take the brush, I can't draw on it. But let's, I can draw on this part. All right, so let's see, lot there group layers.

So if I want to select all these layers here, I can do Command G, Command G, there we go. And it creates a creates a group helps you organize layers. And then you can also do something to affect the whole group. Then, when ungroup the layers that that shift, Command G, puts it back the way it was If I wanted to merge those layers, I can do Command D. If I wanted to merge all the layers that are visible, not just the ones I have selected, I shift command E, and everything's on one layer. And say, I want to select all that's Command A, D, select the selection, Command D. If I want to reselect, whatever was the last thing I had selected, I do shift Command D. Select that again. One, two.

All right, let's do this like that. Say, so I have the blueish circle selected right now. And I can inverse selection by doing shift command I and I had everything but the blue circle selected. All right. If I want my window to fit onto the screen, I do command plus zero That makes it so it fits the length of the screen. Hide extras, right?

So if I have a selection, like that, and you see the little dancing ants going around, if I want to hide that I can do command H. And it's still selected, but you just don't see the answer anymore. And then, the final one, I have lists on here, which again, so you can edit the shortcuts to be however you want so they don't have to be the way you know, I wrote them down. You can change, change them, create new ones, whatever you want. And quick way to get to that menu is doing option. Option Shift, command k, then that opens that and you can go ahead and edit or create new shortcuts as you wish. It cancel.

All right now I told you this is boring as I'm trying to get through it quickly. All right, now we're gonna go to the other hand out the tool, quick reference guide. I've already seen you doing this, all right, to the hitting the marquee tool that is m, and that selects this right here. See where my cursor is. Now right now it's on the circle one because I was using but if you want to do a swish The other type of marquee one, which is the rectangle marquee, you hit Shift plus m and then you can cycle through, say circle squares. I can do a square selection or if I want to do a circle, I guess circle one there.

Okay, the move tool that is hit v. Now do the move tool. Actually, there's nothing to move okay. correctly now I can move fast. That's selected, I can move it. Alright. So let's go down to magic wand, which you just saw me use that's w, w, then you can use the magic wand on any of the shapes.

Polygon Lasso, that is L, well, this gets to the lasso tools, like showing the magnetic one earlier. So, but you just hit again, you hit Shift l to cycle through the different lassos. This is a regular lasso where you just freehand it. That's polygon, where's the shape? And I'll show you I never used this one but the magnetic one, which kind of follows the outline. But you know, it's it's not perfect.

If you go too far, it'll go off, but that could come some use to you Nice tea. And actually if and then just go back to the polygon one. And, you know if you hit option you see a little circled by the polygon. So and then when you click that will close the selection. Now as you notice if you doing the polygon one doing straight lines, if while you're doing this, you want to start free handing it to the regular lasso tool, you just hold down Option and then they know you can do organic free handed shapes. And then you just left off and then you can do straight lines again.

It's very handy. All right, I dropped her. That is it. I do the eyedropper. You go over Tape you want to select the color of hit that and you'll select that color. Okay then be basically the pencil on the brush to be allows you there.

Let's make a little bigger they do that but this is the, you know the brush tool. And again if you hit hold down, shift and be well then you can go to the pencil and that gives you the hard edge line. There's other brushes, too in this version. I never use any of these so you should shift brush to get to the regular brush again. Okay, so now the eraser tool that is E and races does exactly what it says on the tin. Alright gradient ads g get a color here.

Grading tool and you might also want to or add it. I usually just do foreground color to transparent so then that that way you can just do like do gradient like that put a gradient over everything all right? That was g smudge tool are This allows you to smudge things. See, Okay, next one, the Zoom tool, disease that way you can zoom in, or if you held down option then you can zoom out you Drag to zip actually yeah. In this version you can drag to zoom in and out like that back and forth. Or if you just tap, like that'll zoom in or zoom out.

Let's see hand tool, that as h until that allows you to appear in the other, grab it and move the canvas around. helpful when you're zoomed in to see because you're on this one hand tool, and you can move over. That's the purpose of that. Okay, and then toggle colors. You got the foreground and background colors here. So you have x toggle back and forth, which one's active or which ones in the foreground.

And that's basically the ones I'm one of the things I didn't jot down. What you might have noticed me doing is the screen mode. As you can see hit F on the keyboard and you cycle through the different screen modes. So, that is it for the keyboard commands. As I said, you know, there might be other ones that I don't have on the handouts that I might be using throughout the demonstrations. So if there's one that you want to remember, you might want to have a pen handy so you can jot it down, could jot down right, if you print out these handouts, you could jot down right on that just for your own benefit.

But that's it for this one. I'll see you next time.
