Welcome back. In this video, I'm going to show you how to set up Photoshop. So that's optimized for coloring. At this point, you should have Photoshop installed on your computer. If you don't, you might want to stop the video now install it, and then come back. And before I start showing you things I just wanted to point out, you can see the main Macintosh hard drive here, but also this, this one here, which I've named scratch, this is an external drive.

And I use this as a scratch disk for Photoshop, which I'll show you how to set that up later. But this is kind of optional. This just helps you or helps Photoshop operate better when you start running out of RAM. One thing to note is there's this ps autorecover that because that's automatically low Get it on there. But other than that, there is nothing. I don't save any files to this, this is just to help Photoshop run smoothly.

So you can choose to get an external to do that if you want, you don't have to really depends on how much coloring you're going to be doing. Alright, so now I'm going to show you at the Learn to color presets here I'm going to show you where these go. Where they go on each system may vary depending on your version of Photoshop and your operating system. So if what you're using doesn't match mine, you know, you can well you probably might be able to find just by hunting around. But also, if you have troubles you can always just Google and just, you know, put in Google something like where is Photoshop and specify your version of Photoshop, whereas Photoshop presets or it can be even more Specific like where Photoshop actions. And when you do that you'll get plenty of results either from like the Adobe forums or blogs or there's a lot of helper pages that will tell you where to find these things.

And every once in a while I have to do this myself because Photoshop or Mac changes the setup and I have to find them all over again. But typically they're pretty much in the same spot so you can use this hunter round form. So Alright, so I had this open. And these are the different types of presets, we're going to be loading actions brushes, color swatches, keyboard shortcuts, and workspaces. So I'm going to go up, open up my Macintosh hard drive, and go to applications on the Photoshop folder. And there's a folder called presets.

That's where most the stuff is going to go. So the actions you can see I already have where's it There you go. The to learn to color Action sets which right there I have it there but if you're going alone you just select them, you know drag them over, drop them in. brushes very similar though you'll notice I do something different in the brushes section because I tend to add a lot of brushes play around with brushes. So I like to keep them in folders. So that way see the default.

Those are the ones that came with Photoshop. I want to make sure I remember which ones were the initial Photoshop brushes and then everything else I have in folders. So you can if you want, you can just copy over the L two c brushes and just drop them in there or if you don't want them in folders, just go and grab the actual brushes file and then just drag it into the brushes folder. Either one will work. Next one is color swatches. can use color swatches there.

I've already have a loaded, but you just drag that over. Next is keyboard shortcuts. Now, you might not have the keyboard shortcuts folder in there. But if you don't have that there, then you just drag the whole folder over if you do, you can just drag over the file. But then there's that now, workspaces actually go somewhere different. So you go down to go, you go to the go menu here, go to folder.

And this is a hidden library that you can't get to just by going through your Macintosh hard drive. So hit go. It'll take you to your hidden library folder. This is for Mac I'm not sure what it would be on PC. So you might have to look it up if you can't find it. And you go down to preferences are there completely without supports at the top right, then you click on your Adobe Photoshop settings.

And this, then there, there may again once again there may or may not be a workspaces folder already there. If there's not, you can just drag this whole workspaces folder in there. Or, if it's there, you just open that and then drag it over to the workspace. So once you've done that, then you'll be ready to open up Photoshop. So let's open up Photoshop. And here we go.

Welcome thing, let's turn that off. Alright, and First, well let's start a time in reverse workspaces. Now if you put the workspace in the right spot should go down to window to workspaces. And the workspaces should automatically be detected right here. So you just select the work, learn to color workspace, unless you don't want to use you don't have to these are optional. You don't have to use the Learn to color workspace but it'll help match your setup to mine.

And then for keyboard shortcuts. Again, if you don't want to use my keyboard shortcuts, you don't have to, but in those here first of all, it should be detecting if you put in the right space again, it should be detecting the Learn to color shortcuts. But you also notice here that this learn to color workspace is also i believe i bundled the shortcuts with the workspace. So if you load the workspace, it should automatically be selected. And again, if you just want the Photoshop defaults, you can do there and also in this window. Say you can all the different areas where there are shortcuts are here and if you want to, you can edit them to something else.

To customize it to what's most comfortable for you. So there's that. Alright next show you how to load swatches. So you would go to the swatches menu here. If it's not, it was not there with the workspace I believe it should put it in there for you I'm not sure certain though, but if it's not there you go to Window and you can just click on swatches and everything checked is what's going to be showing is what's gonna be visible. All right for the swatches, hit the menu and you go down to replace swatches and select learn to color one open and then that'll replace your swatch.

Learn to color one mine was already wanting to color so it replaced it with the same one Action wise. Okay, well you notice here to my actions, this is the one that I've included learn to color actions. I've already loaded this one, but the that's this the art for the one for the RGB. So I'll show you. You just go down to load actions. And you go down and find the Learn to color I there's the CNY k one, hit open.

And then you'll notice at the bottom, right there, okay, and also notice the little menu in the section will probably point that out on the on each of these little windows on the side, there's a little menu thing and that's where you're finding the places where to load them. Now I believe all that's left is to load the brushes. So select on the brushes here in the menu on the side. Go up to brushes, you hit the little gear thing. And instead of hitting load brushes, because if you hit load brushes, I believe it's like yeah, just puts on the bottom here. But if you go to replace brushes and select your Brush Preset to learn to color basic one, open that there, then that will replace the brush that was already there with what we will be using.

So that's how you load those presets I showed you. Now there's a few other couple things I wanted to show you that you're going to need to do before we start coloring. This one, all the selection tools. Like let's go to the lasso here. You'll see this box here. Mine's checked off, it's anti alias you want to make sure that that is off.

You don't want that on And you've done the Polygon Lasso on the regular lasso? sure that's off. You can do on the main net. I've never used the magnetic one, but you can turn that off there too. You're gonna want it off on the magic wand. And you might use the same song on this one.

I don't use them often but the the shape selection tools, you might want to go in there and make sure that those are all off as well. And you might be wondering what anti alias is. And this is a video I'll show you so I'm going to open up a new file. I'm going to select the circular selecting tool and right now, I have anti On off, I'm going to create my freight circle on one corner. And let's select a red color. I'm gonna fill it there.

I'm gonna hit Command D to D select. Now I'm going to turn anti aliasing on. I'm going to create another circle right there, this one with anti Islam, fill it with the same color. The select again, now looking at this slot, so basically they look the same. Let's zoom way in and check out the edges. So if you zoom in, you'll notice when you zoom in, it's just flat pixels.

There's just a flat red and a flat white on the one that had the anti aliased turn off, turn it off, so it's going to give you a nice crisp line. And that's what we want now on the other one with the anti aliased turned on. Zoom in. Now you can see the difference. difference. There's all these other shades going on that kind of merges the white and the red.

And that was in Comic Con and that's going to cause a problem. And I'll show you why I'm going to go to the selection tool or the magic wand tool. And I'm going to select the white area. Now I want to fill that in with a blue. And then once again, I'm going to zoom in, and again, still, same situation of flat red, and a flat blue now, and still nice crisp separation. Now he's doing over here and see the Brahm there's a slight Halo in between there you can see the white is still showing through.

Now let's say go back to the magic wand again. And say is like no, I didn't want those Red, I wanted them to be green. Yeah, let's go pick a green and fill those in. Now, once again, the one that had the Antilles alias turned off, has a nice crisp line, flat colors. That's what you want to zoom into this one, say that hail is getting worse now you get all sorts of colors going on. And this causes a problem, especially if you have an entire comic book page, done with the anti alias turned on.

It's unusable. So that's why we turn them off, turn them off, turn anti aliasing off, and we keep them off the entire time. So I'm going to close this. So that's pretty much Once you've done this, if you've done it correctly, we should be set up and your Photoshop is now optimized. For combo calling, though. There's one more thing wanted to show you if I can remember where it's at.

I think it's just under Photoshop in the preferences. They go, okay, maybe I have to. Yeah. Okay, performance yet purposes to performance. Now I just wanted to go into down here to scratch disks. That's what I wanted.

And this was talked about before. You see you have the Macintosh hard drive. If it ever uses up this scratch disk, which it never does, then it would use the Macintosh hard drive, but I have Mexico drive, or the scratch disk here selected as a scratch disk and then you can use the mouse. See, you can use the arrows to rearrange them on the side. So you just want if you if you're going to use the external extra scratch disk and you just make sure you start And then the number one position and that will help the performance of your Photoshop. But again, like I said, that's optional.

You don't have to do that at this point might be something to consider in the future as I cancel, all right, so there's that. And that's it for the video for this video. I'll see you next time.
