Alright, in this video, I'm going to show you how to set up your renders. Now the way I do it is unique to me. It's something that I've developed, just because I felt to help me speed up the process. And it's also easier when making changes later on. As far as I know, I'm the only colorist that does anything remotely close to this process. But so yeah, I mean, it's, you don't have to do it this way.

You know, if you're an experienced colorist already, you might just want to try my process and then just adapt what you like into your own. If you're a complete novice, I would say, you know, try to do what I do. And then as you learn more, you can modify it to be to work better for you. Alright, so, first we're going to do here's the flats as we finished doing them makes well if you haven't already, make sure you've, you know, saved them. And then hit Shift Command S, hold on, there we go shift Command S. And we're going to go down to renders colors and I went to save, copy here because we're going to do in our renders saving. Alright, then first I'm going to do is hit Shift command E. So now all we have is the local color layer, which is turned off and then the background layer.

Now I want to go to the actions and go down to this action and the action set called create BG Group or create background I have that assigned to F 16. But before I activate that I'm going to do is go to the wand tool and I'm going to select all the elements of the environment. Alright, think I got it all. There we go. There's a little bit, there we go. No Man's gonna leave, that's fine.

All right, and then I'll hit that F 16. And now it's reversed now. And now at this point, like if it's a comic page that had a They had like borders. And you know, you don't want the white so you could unselect anything you're not going to be doing renderings on but this one has no border. So I'm just going to leave it here. And I have the next one, which is called create figs or figures group.

So now it's since reverse basically the figures are selected. So then I hit F 17. And I've created these two different groups here. And I'm just going to show you what they actually now we have here the first layer is which is called shape, which is basically just the base. The base color that I have for everything that's in the environment. On this one, this is a layer that's set to multiply and has everything that's not on the on the shape, masked off then these next three left layers are for highlights.

And right now I just copied the local color layers to this and then I can basically with this I can build up highlights and then if I want to use a different highlight color, then the saturated local color underneath that I can easily just select the shape and tweak that. So also want to say like at this point to if you decided you're looking at your class before you even start and you want to make a change, you can for instance, turn the lineup back on. I'm starting to think that this the color that I put over, over this is a little bit too cool. So what I'm going to do is actually I can command select those and select This portion of the there we go this portion of the environment. The front portion, the environment, I'd put the cool color over to command h to hide them.

Then I'm going to copy this local color. turn that on, hit the shift command. Yeah. delete everything I'm not going to be using. Oh, wait, hold on. See, I just noticed that that person Okay, that's what I'm missing.

I'm missing some. Hold on. I messed it up. Let me try this again. Do select needle Figures match I can do select the ones I've been putting in color over want to make sure I have this this this this this this this there we go now I've got it all okay and i think i to read so I select everything I that's was in the warmer background hit Delete so now yeah so basically I just have the part that I wanted to have cool and I'm gonna create another layer I want to set that one too color or what else you can do is when you have this selected, if you just hit C, that'll make a color. And then I can also do the same thing.

That C, it's hold on shift, I think it's shift options c changed. Yes, shift, option C changes the color mode, that's two color. And then I can just hit a number though to change this and that. So I want that at 40. So I hit four and I'll change the opacity of the 40. So now I have this as Color Mode 40.

And now I'm going to use I'm going to turn off the foreground and background there so you can actually see what I'm doing here. Right now I'm going to select that instead. This is the color I had originally right here. I'm gonna select the slightly warmer a lot warmer kind of pinkish purple there. I'm going To fill that and hold on, let's select the layer that I just created, and then fill that area. There we go.

Now we got two more warmers still separates these two but it's more, it's more warm. If I wanted to make it a little bit more cooler, I could go select that original color question mark to lock this layer. And I could put like a little bit coolness into this 40% I like that. It's not as Stark as before, but it still works. And now I select hold down shift and hit the local color copy. And now those two are selected, I hit command E to merge them.

And then if I'm going to select this later side of the selection Hi, that was Command H, and then I'm going to select the or hold down Command and select the background. There's now this layer one and background selected, Command D to merge those two. And now that's changed there, but I need to change the here for these for these shapes here, so what I'll do is I'll hold down Command select that shape, then I'll do Command J, while the background layer selected, hit Command J, hit the question mark to lock it and then move that above that scene. Now I've changed that now. Select those two layers, command E to merge them. Hit the question mark and I'm going to rename this shape again.

And then I'll repeat the same thing with the background group. Once you get used to this, it's actually not as complicated as I'm making it sound. There we go. Now I've edited the basic colors. So, alright, now your render set up and we're ready to start rendering, which we'll do in the next video.
