In this video, we're going to have a look at how to change some default settings such as currency, and even date and time settings. And this would be useful if perhaps some of your projects are based in Europe and some in the US. And when working in spreadsheets that require euros or a different date notation, you find that you always have to come in and edit the particular format to apply the correct formatting. And this process can be very time consuming. A better way is to temporarily change the defaults, so that as soon as we input numbers or dates, they come up with the correct notation and currency. And we can do that by either accessing the region settings in control panel, or you can search for this simply tapping at date and time and choosing date and time from the control panel.
And then choosing to change the date and time. Change the color The settings and that will bring up the customers format dialog box, which allows us to change the default date settings, time, currency, and even numbers. Here, I'm going to change the default short date notation to something different such as day followed by the abbreviated month, followed by the year. Let's go to currency and change the currency symbol to euro. There are many other changes that we can make, including how we would view negative information, the decimal symbol, the grouping symbol, and all of the same settings for regular numbers which are not currencies. Once we are happy with all these changes that we've made, we can click Apply.
And then close all of these other dialog boxes. And now you'll actually notice that in the background, previously, this was $1,000. Now it reads 1000 euros and similarly if we input a Any new information and apply a currency format. It uses the new default currency of euros. So this process is definitely quicker than changing the format. Every single time we choose either currency or date information.
And once you're done, you can simply move back and change back to the originals. And in the background, I'm sure you noticed our information changing back to dollars. So now you know where to find a lot of important information around how our numbers, dates and times are presented in Excel. We'll see in the next video
