I want to select the entire list of many rows. How do I do it without clicking and dragging?

Transcript

In this video, we're going to learn how to navigate and select ranges and tables very quickly, I want to select this entire list which has many rows, and how to do it without simply clicking and dragging, which as you can see is a long process, we can have a look at two methods. Firstly, using the mouse, I can click on the cell that I'd like to start the selection from. And then I'm going to hover over the bottom border of the active cell until I see my cursor changed the four way directional, because I'm going to hold down the shift key and double click. As you can see, it jumps us all the way down to the last non blank cell in that direction. And to extend the selection to the right, I could do the same by holding down the Shift key, hovering over the right border and double clicking.

And there we have a selection using the mouse. If I'd like to do this using the keyboard, once again, I could start in the top left hand corner and Simply hold Ctrl Shift and the down arrow. And while you've got control shift held down, simply hit the right arrow. And that creates the entire selection we need. Now, the only reason Excel is able to do this for us is because we have a contiguous data set, which is not broken by any blank rows or blank columns. For example, if we tried the same thing over here, holding Ctrl, Shift down and right now only select this information which is contiguous, because it's been broken by these blank rows.

And finally, a quicker way to do this using the keyboard is to select any data point in this continuous data range. And then simply doing Ctrl N A, which is the shortcut for select all. And once again, because the data is contiguous, x will confirm that entire selection with a single keyboard shortcut. And these are the methods that we are going to be using making selections throughout the rest of the series. We'll see in the next video.
