Marcel starts off with a really deep look at his five favorite mics and what might influence his choice. He discusses the type of voice, why you want to keep the lead vocal reflection-free in the recording process, unnatural EQ effect from comb filtering, minimizing ambient reverb and which way to position the microphone in the room.

Marcel’s personal favorites are Shure SM58, Neumann U87, Sony C37A (Frank Sinatra’s favorite!), Neumann U67 and the Schoeps Colette with MK4 capsule.
