DESCRIPTION: I'm all for comfort. A comfortable bed. A comfortable room temperature. A relaxing and enjoyable routine before bed. It can help you to look forward to bedtime and sleep if you include some treats for the senses, such as massage, a warm bath, candles, aromatherapy, a relaxing book to read, or soothing music.

However, these are all adjuncts to the most important factor, which is located not in your external environment, but in your internal environment. Sleep, like much of life, is an inside game.

My favorite illustration of this involves an early sleep study commissioned by a bed company. The company was hoping to prove how much better your sleep would be on one of their top of the line deluxe and expensive mattresses. Unfortunately, the university that conducted the study had medical students as its test subjects. Very tired medical students. Medical students who slept just as well on the top of the line deluxe and expensive mattresses, as they did on a concrete floor.
