Now it's time for our first Freddy King solo. And this is this is one of his more approachable, simpler solos that he does. And heads up, he takes one solo verse and he's gonna play mostly over the first position, blue, Xbox and the key of G. So over the first position, g Park court, and what I'm going to do with the solos, rather than try to play every solo note for note all the way through for you, I'm going to count on you to listen to the solo. And then what I'm going to do is break it down one phrase at a time. And what I've done in the tab, and what I'm going to do here with the teaching for all the songs on this in this series, is I'm just going to teach one phrase at a time. And the idea is that you can take these phrases and put them together and mix them up and, you know, create your own solos and Freddie King like solos, if you want to play a note for now, it's in the tab.

You can figure that out too. But I think this will be easier for all of us. So starting out when it gets to the turnaround He's gonna go into this first lick, which is like this. What I'm doing, I'm bending up with two fingers, my ring finger and my second finger on the fifth fret of the third string. And then I'm going with my first finger to the third fret of the second string. And then I'm going to do this band.

It's a long band, I call them long bands, because I'm going to use all four fingers and my pinky, which is doing the main work is at the sixth fret of the second string. But I've got his finger on each string, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and then I'm bending up. There. We'll see later Friday, sometimes when he put some vibrato into it, this opening lick on heads up, he doesn't do that. He just bends it up. listen to the song and kind of get a feel for how far you gonna bend it and where you want to hold it.

So once again, we're gonna bend on the third string, third fret of the second string on the second string, and that is phrase number one, or look number one for Freddy kings. Heads Up. Lick number two, phrase number two in the solo for Freddy kings heads up. He's going to play around on the third and fourth strings, and he's going to play this lick right here. This is the second phrase of the solo. This is a very common Freddie King type thing.

He likes to bend and release and hold the bands and release them in different ways to get all kinds of different variations out of these these simple positions on the guitar. So I'm starting out. Bending up on the third fret, I'm using three fingers here, my first finger is on the third fret of the third string. Ring finger on the fifth fret, which is really where I'm bending. So I'm bending up. Coming back, five, three on the third string.

I do it again, with a little bit longer band. So that's the second phrase. Let me play it for you slowly. Does that a second time bands that holds it just a little bit the third fret of the third string, fourth fret, fifth fret of the fourth string with a slight bend I call these one finger band where I'm bending up on the third fret of the third string. So let's play that whole lick again, slowly. That is the second phrase in the solo for heads up.

The third phrase in the solo for Freddy kings heads up goes like this. We're gonna see one really typical, actually two very typical Freddy King ideas and this one lick. The first one is this band on the third string, just like we've been doing before, then he's going to go to the fifth fret, third fret of the first string. There's gonna come back and do that hammer on by Bravo on the fifth fret of the third string. So let's do this again. Twice.

Same Ben on the fifth fret of the third string, camera on from the third to the fifth fret and he holds it and puts it vibrato into it just for a second there. So let's do the whole lick so far. And then he's gonna go, oh, third fret of the third string to the fourth fret fifth fret of the fourth string. So we've got this and then back to the third fret of the third string. Now the next brace of the solo and Freddy kings heads up, goes like this. So he's just doing kind of a walk over the first position, blue, Xbox and G. So I'm starting here with a slight band on the sixth fret of the second string to the third fret of the first string, back to the sixth fret of the second string to the third fret of the second string.

So we've got this Then I hear, oh, this fret of the third string, back to the third fret of the second string, third fret of the third string, fifth fret of the fourth string. So that whole lick is like this. Play it one more time. That is phrase number four for Freddy kings solo and heads up. Then he's gonna follow that up with this lick right here. Which is really, really cool.

So I'm starting again from the third fret of the second string on the fifth fret of the second string, we haven't seen this yet. And then he's gonna go to the third fret of the first string. Slight bend on the sixth fret of the second string to the third fret of the second string. So this whole lick right here. And then he's gonna go back to the third string on and with the bands 1234353 third fret of the third string on the fifth fret of the fourth string. That is the next phrase and Freddy King Sela for heads up And then to wrap up the heads up solo, he's going to do another one of these typical Freddy King licks, he's going to do something like this.

And you'll hear him do something like this in so many other songs. So I'm wrapping up the previous phrase, where he ends up let's do the whole thing. We start from here. And that is the end. So what I'm doing right here is a phrase that we've done before third fret, fourth fret on the third string to the second fret, third fret of the second string. Then I'm going to go third fret of the first string, sixth fret of the second string.

Then I'm going to write to the fifth fret of the third string and then To the third fret with a little bit of a bend there, so the whole lick, then I'm going to wrap it up going to the fifth fret of the fourth string, fifth fret of the fifth string. And that's where the turnaround comes in. Nobody wraps up that solo, I don't know if it goes into a chord, so it does something like this. Or if he just winds up on the fifth fret of the fifth string, you can listen to it. And again, there's two guitars on this, I'm pretty sure. So it could be the rhythm guitar that you hear on this.

Turn around. So let me walk through that last part of the solo one more time. We'll take it from. There we have our first Freddy King solo and if you notice in this video series, and the lessons that I'm doing here I'm trying to go from the easiest, most approachable Freddie King songs to the most difficult. But a lot of these ideas even though this is a pretty easy solo, I'll say easy, relatively easy, that there's a lot of types involved to get these licks just right. To get those bands, there's a lot a lot of skill involved in doing it's not not terrific and I just nobody's doing.

So this is a good place to start and a lot of these licks we're going to use over and over again, and we'll come back to these you'll see pretty quick here in a couple songs when we get into another solo.
