The first sell over so Freddie King, he's just picking comes right after that first champion lick. So let me play it through. I'll just play what he plays and then we'll, we'll take it apart. And as the previous verse with this lick, that's the first cell over so he starts out playing right here, this leg, which is a typical electric and country blues lick. And what I'm doing is I've got my first finger on the seventh fret of the first string and my second finger on the eighth fret of the second string this note, which is a really important note. As you'll see, as we get into more of these Freddie King instrumentals, he uses this really in a way different than other electric guitar players of his era.
But anyway, what I'm doing is holding my first finger solid on the seventh fret of the first string, the second string at the eighth fret. Then the last time he doesn't come back to the first string, he bends it, so the whole length goes like this. Then he's gonna go to the ninth fret of the third string. To wrap it up to that first phrase. Then he's gonna play this, which is really cool. This is a shape that he's going to do later, both these first couple licks, if you want to find them on the guitar and any key and Freddie's gonna use them in a and Okay, and if he doesn't see just doesn't, hey, that's the other key.
He does this in G as well. But he's got this is the second position barre chord, E. So I'm just playing this This leg and then this leg, which is really the same shape it is the same shape and my pinky and my third finger are walking from the 10th to the ninth fret, so it's like this back to the eighth fret of the second string back to the ninth fret of the third string. So let's do the whole first part of this the solo lick. Like that, and then he's gonna do another one of these. But this time, he's gonna do the first fan and hold it a little bit. And then the second one's gonna be quicker.
Something like that. Then he's gonna slide into this and that's a B double stuff. And this is the B Second is first position barre chord. So I'm just coming into this shape. On the second and third strengths and I'm sliding, I've got my first finger on the sixth fret of the second string and my second finger on the seventh fret, and I'm picking the third string and sliding into the eighth fret. And then picking the second string probably an upstroke with the way Freddy was doing thing.
So this whole thing so far, we got this. He doesn't do the vibrato. It's just kind of like it's just the natural sustain of the guitar. It's really a single string thing. holds that shape and that he's gonna move it down here. With a little lick that we've already used in a slightly different way, so this double stop then another one of these and that's how it wraps up the first solo.
So some of these licks that we've done already, and I've already showed you, you should know them or go back look at the tab, so we don't teach everything two or three times because he does repeat a lot of stuff. So let's play the first solo verse slowly, one more time through. last leg is the first drink. So there we have the first Friday kings just picked it
