Before I reveal the 10 steps to building a persona, we need a starting point, a place to compare where you are today versus where you will be by the end of the course. So I'd like to invite you to take a clean sheet of paper and describe for me a particular target audience. Now, you may have multiple audiences, but let's make it simple. Pick one. And I want you to describe that particular audience in whatever way you're most comfortable with. Whether it's writing it down in a short paragraph bulleted list doesn't really matter.

For now just get your thoughts on paper. Tell me who they are. What do they look like? How are they using your product, give as much detail as you think is appropriate for describing your target audience. After you complete the exercise, take your sheet of paper, don't throw it away. Just put it off to the side because we're going to come back to it with exercise two Which we'll conduct at the end of the course.
