Should you take beta blockers to calm your nerves before giving a big speech or presentation? Folks, there is a class of drugs known as beta blockers. Any physician can prescribe them, they don't get you high, but they do keep you from being tensed up. They can help with nerves. I have had clients who felt like they were so nervous, there was simply no way they could get through a national TV appearance without beta blockers. I do not recommend taking beta blockers.
If you're nervous about how you're presenting it may be with good reason. It may be that you're boring or you haven't really thought of good ideas and good examples and good stories. The way to get over that is not to mask the feeling with a drug but it's to actually make sure you have a good speech a good presentation. So you should start by rehearsing on video. Think of it this way. If I I'm going to a photo shoot today, and I don't bother shaving half of my face.
And I don't bother washing my face and I have coffee stains and jelly stains across my face is the answer for me to take a drug to feel better and feel like I'm good looking or is the answer to actually take a shower, shave, look in the mirror and be able to see okay, I'm now presentable. So that's my problem with the whole beta blocker thing. It's, it's not dealing with the real problem. The real problem is not how you feel the real problem is do you actually have an interesting, compelling, memorable presentation? Because if you feel like you're great and relaxed, but you're still awful and boring and unmemorable. So what you're still awful, boring and memorable.
So take my advice. Do not spend time tracking down doctors going to pharmacies getting beta blockers. Spend your time coming up with an interesting presentation, rehearsing and making sure it's good
