DESCRIPTION: 
I&rsquo;m going to walk you through how to self-assess your pelvic floor. I will start with an external assessment and then move on to an internal one. You will want to have clean hands, lube, and a towel handy. A hand mirror can be helpful to orientate yourself if you have one and you may want a pen and piece of paper to write down any notes about what you find. You want to get into a comfortable position where you can relax in. Semi-reclined sitting with butterfly legs is a preferred position for many.
Let's start with external palpation. Start at the top of your pubic bone. Feel downward toward your vagina. You will feel the edge of the pubic bone and that is the beginning of your pelvic floor. Staying below the ridge of bone, palpate around going clockwise. You are feeling any tenderness or discomfort? The tissues should be soft and malleable. If you feel a spot that is taut and/or tender, make a note of the location and continue going around the clock.
