Abdominal massage is beneficial for many reasons including but not limited to: improved blood flow and digestion, the indirect release of the pelvic floor, improved access to abdominals, and reduction of diastasis recti. I am going to review the techniques for each of these benefits and I encourage you to do a mix of them all.
For digestion, you want to massage your abdomen in a clockwise direction. You can also get fancy and incorporate small circles within your bigger clockwise circle. This is the direction in that food moves and progresses through our large intestines.
For indirect pelvic floor release, you want to focus on the lower abdomen. This fascial is tied to the fascia of the pelvic floor so any message here benefits it. I like to do a little pull upward toward the belly...
