DESCRIPTION: Most people think of incontinence as peeing yourself to the point where your pants need to be changed. While this is definitely incontinence, it&rsquo;s not the only type of incontinence. I also want to note that there is both urinary and fecal incontinence which means you can lose control of your bladder and/or bowel.
Big picture, there are two types of incontinence: urge incontinence and stress incontinence. Urge incontinence is the feeling of needing to go pee or poop when you don&rsquo;t actually have to or the sensation of having to go pee or poop is far more than is justified for the amount of pee or poop waiting to be eliminated. It can also be having very little time between the sensation of the urge coming on and the time you must be at a toilet, so not being able to hold your poop or pee for very long.
Stress incontinence is when you pee or poop yourself with an increase in abdominal pressure. This could be running, jumping, coughing, sneezing, laughing, lifting, or...
