I only use profanities when they are absolutely necessary and bullshit is the best descriptor for the 6-week clearance. I do not blame doctors, OBs, or midwives for doing it but I do wish they would make it more clear what they are screening for and leave it up to other perinatal professionals like pelvic physical therapists to assess for everything else.
It is a standard medical practice to have your first postpartum visit around the 6-week mark. The goal of this visit is to make sure proper healing is taking place and to make sure there are no red flags present. After that, all they are concerned about is what form of birth control you want to sign-up for. I&rsquo;m fine with all of this but what isn&rsquo;t cool is if you check off in their limited assessment, you are cleared for exercise and sex with no further guidance.
