Once the scar has fully closed, you will want to regain the mobility of the scar itself and the surrounding tissues that have like developed adhesions from guarding the scar during the healing period. In addition to doing scar massage, you can also stretch and lengthen the tissues.
You will want to start gently by mobilizing from within through breathwork. You may find this the most tolerable lying flat on your back with your feet flat but I encourage you to practice it in all positions and throughout your day as well. To do so, you want to focus on your inhale of each breath. On the inhale, think about sending the air all the way down into your lower abdomen. You can put your hands on your scar and practice breathing into your hands. If you feel discomfort, you want to breathe up to and a little bit into that discomfort. It is a signal that you are stretching the tissue which is exactly what you are aiming to do.
