Abdominal pressure is a good thing. It stabilizes the spine on our inhale. But too much pressure or pressure uneven distribution can cause a world full of problems. These include hemorrhoids, hernias, prolapse, incontinence, and diastasis recti.
If you have one of these symptoms or diagnoses, you want to check your pressure and see what you can do to get the benefit of pressure without all the problems.
The first thing to ask yourself is how much pressure do I generate? As I mentioned, abdominal pressure stabilized the spine so the amount of pressure correlates with how much spinal stability is needed in the task. For instance, when lifting up a feather, no pressure is needed whereas deadlifting 2x your body weight requires quite a bit. It is common for people to generate far more pressure than is needed which puts unnecessary stress on the tissues.
