DESCRIPTION: There is a reason why sleep deprivation is a form of torture. It's just that, torture. Sleep is what makes the world go round. It is the precursor to everything. It is absolutely necessary to feel good and function. But you have no control over how much sleep you get right now and you won&rsquo;t have control over it for quite some time.
I should note that if you haven&rsquo;t slept for consecutive nights or you are unable to fall asleep even if your baby is sleeping, that is what is considered beyond normal postpartum sleep deprivation so please seek professional help. Calling your doctor is a good place to start. The other form of more gradual, progressive, and accumulative exhaustion is normal and there is a chance that you won&rsquo;t fully heal or completely feel good until your baby allows for continuous, restful sleep. That is how important sleep is.
