DESCRIPTION:
In our indoor farms, our sunlight is LED lights. Hydroponic farming uses a decent amount of electricity. Our dream is to become completely solar.
To get there, we have been paying attention to our energy usage and how we can mitigate it.
90% of lettuce grown in the United States comes from California and Arizona, that then gets transported to South Florida - 3,000 miles

Food Miles refers to the distance that it travels when being transported all over the world.
This process has a devastating impact on the environment.
Contributes 25% of all carbon emissions and the transportation alone is 20% within that

Here at Box Greens, we grow local and distribute local.

We don’t participate in food miles at all.
Our restaurants are all within a mile.
We do direct to consumer.

An ideal situation would be that we have Carbon Sinks built into our agricultural systems that absorb the CO2.

This would be regenerative farming, food forests, preserving natural climate habitats to balance that...
