Finding space in your emotional world
Start by listing 1 or more recent situations when you experienced a challenging emotion.
This could be something as straightforward as fear, or someone making you angry, or even as nuanced as a feeling of weakness created by someone’s intimidating comment. Now list where you felt each of these emotions in your body. For example, did your throat get tense when you were angry? Or did you get butterflies in your stomach when you were nervous, or anxious?  
Connecting your emotional reality to the physical dimension is a powerful way to bring awareness. Now, pay close attention the next time something like this happens. Notice where it shows up in your body and see if you can observe a tiny space between the moment you are triggered and when your body begins to react.
