DESCRIPTION: A self-tape means you film your own audition.
You need good lighting, sound, a simple background, and a strong scene partner (reader).
I use my iPhone, a ring light, sometimes a&nbsp;blue or green screen, and a clip-on Lavalier mic.
It can be a little tricky, because not only do you have to be a storyteller, you also have to be your own&nbsp;production company.
The key to nailing a great self-tape is preparation. Being off-book, building a strong character, serving the writer&rsquo;s intention, and trusting that you are enough.
As with any audition or performance, you need to warm up.
This may include some physical exercise/activity, warming up your voice, saying the lines out loud, improvising the moment before, and mapping out your focal points for the camera.
It&rsquo;s really about bringing yourself fully to the role and also understanding where you fit into the story.
