DESCRIPTION: Lucy and Olive talk about the approach to Scaffolding For Easy Literacy, especially to support parents and preschool staff.
Scaffolding in Early Years is a technique designed to help young children learn new skills based on their previous experience with similar skills. Young children are often thought of as creative geniuses with exceptional mental imagery. This visual skill enables them to recognize their parents at just 6 weeks old. As they grow up you will realize how great their visual memory and creative imagination may be.
For recognising words, you need to develop the skill to picture words in mental imagery. Children can develop this skill naturally before any formal education, at 4-5 years old in the UK.
Once they have this visual skill it will enable phonics to fit into place and accelerate a child's progress with phonics.
