Secret number two is sequence what you need to do. Speaking comes down to these three areas, they really these two areas here, the presentation what you say the distribution, who you say it to. And when it comes to who you say it to. Distribution is really what it's all about. Now I know there's a I've got a little bit of a training on presentation skills, but this one is all about distribution, you need to know your message and know how to distribute it out to people, whether it's to those that can hire you to speak or those that will just buy from you. In other words, they buy your materials.

So we're going to talk about here is distribution. Okay, first thing on here is it speaking business structure. Whenever you start to think about the business of speaking, what I'm showing you here is an order of building the actual business. Before you step out and do anything you must understand the marketplace and inside of the marketplace or industries and inside those industries are where the meaning planners, and the audiences are. And once you understand that, I mean, this marketplace. This is the industry inside of the marketplace.

This is the audience that I am trying to reach. And then you say to yourself, what problems are these audience people having based on my expertise and knowledge, so they've got a problem they're dealing with. And their problem is really based on their values and beliefs. Everyone has problems you got to be the one as the speaker understanding how do they put a value and belief on this problem? So you're the speaker and you're in a specific marketplace like in for me marketplaces, insurance. The industry is a very specialized insurance professional, the audiences are all insurance people and he really dislike change.

The values and beliefs when it comes to change are simple. I do not want to embrace it. My solution. I create a product or service books and CDs now this is where money starts to come into play. Most people would say I'm going to tell him a speech. No, the solution is created inside of a product or service books and CDs, the speech speaks of the solution.

But the products and services are what they consume. To keep going. See a speech can only last so long. So when you start talking about solutions, you've got to already have product services, books or CDs that offer the solution after you're done presenting, because that they're dealing with this problem. It's not going to be cured by your one hour presentation. You've got to have a solution for them.

And it could be in more training. It could be in a full day seminar. It could be in a retreat, it could be in your book, it could be in CDs, but you got to have that solution in place. Number seven is marketing, distribution, immediate systems. You've got to have a way to market your speech, to distribute your speech and to tell everybody about your speech. You've also got to have a way to market your solution.

To distribute your solution and to tell everybody about your solution. So these are things that when you're building a business, you have to have a place, you have to know how to market, distribute, and continue to communicate to people. And then finally, of course, back in business. Now, that could be books and tapes, but they also can be consulting, and coaching and seminars. So there could be a host of other things that you could offer. But this right here, what you're looking at is the basis of a speaking business.

This is the structure behind the structure. This is what every speaking business has going on. And I want to show that to you here so that you can see it clearly. Okay, the next thing on here is is what do you need to get you know, what do you need to get paid to speak now this is my friend right here, Paul hire, who of course looks like Chris Farley, if you're watching this video, and we put this I put the sign on him because it really expresses truly our city. limits to being a speaker. In other words, you have to have a program that really is going to be embraced by a potential client.

You've got to have certain things in place to create opportunities for yourself. You've got to have things in place that allow you to get noticed by people that can hire you. So here are the core things you need. You need to program you know, and when it comes to meeting planners hiring you, they're most driven by these core areas here, your program title, what is your call, your subtitle and your description. So when you first start talking to a meeting planner, they first need to be sold on the title and the subtitle of the program doesn't even need to know you yet. They just need to know that this program is something that they want to hear.

Then your bio comes into play, like who are you where you come from that information, then references and testimonials. Now here's a technique that I used. I used to leverage testimonies from my past career To help bridge the gap into my speaking world, and now you can do that through LinkedIn. So if you've got testimonies on your LinkedIn, five profile, people giving you testimonies, that's your those are your references. Those are your testimonies. Those are the things that you can post and put on your website or put on your marketing materials to help people see that you are credible in this area, and now you're making the transition over to this area.

So you got to have things that demonstrate credibility. Number six, of course, nowadays got to have a demo video. Now I didn't say you had to have a Spielberg type video. You know, when you speak and you're earning over 10 grand, you'll be able to have a really fancy video, but when you're under 10 grand, just a basic video so they can see you present. I mean, it can be done on a phone. It can be done with just a camera, but a basic video, what most planners are looking for especially those that are not booking people over 10 grand.

They just want to see That you can deliver your message, hold their attention be engaging, and the audience is receptive to you. So they want to see that you don't have to have major movie production, when you're just trying to get booked, and it's not over 10 grand as you get closer to 10 grand For Bookings, the videos will have to improve. Photographs will have to be better. But when you're trying to get booked for $500 1020 503,000, even $5,000 you don't need that massive amount of video work now, a video person would disagree. But once again, they're in the business of producing videos. I'm in the business of getting booked.

And I understand what it takes to get booked. Whereas a video person might disagree and say no, you need the best video possible. Not when you don't have a lot of money. You know, you need a good video. You don't need a great video. And then finally, of course, our books, CDs and reports.

When you're starting out, you might not have a book You do have thoughts and ideas. And that's what you should be writing down you should be writing now articles. And you should write articles out. In other words, write articles on your expertise, your knowledge based on problems people are dealing with, that you want to speak on. So you write articles. And that's something you can give to a meeting planner, or someone that could hire you and show them that you have thought about this issue.

And you have solutions. And if you write enough articles that can become a book. Also, you can take out your phone, record yourself talking into a CD, or in other words, talking into your phone and record your own CD. So there's a host of things you can do to build your credibility. And one of the biggest things I felt like was that I need opportunities coming to me as fast as I can, because we have bills to pay and time is short. So I was very conscious of getting things done and done is not perfect, done is good enough.

And I was real conscious of that. And I realized over time that a lot of people that were hiring speakers felt the same way. I have booked many gigs where I've actually called a person up, told him who I was what I was about and said, I'm here to make your life easier, because I'm the one that you should book. They're going through hundreds of speakers, and I'm the one that calls well, that made their life so much easier that I would get booked. So I've had that scenario happen to me before. So what I'm saying to you is, these seven things are the seven things that I personally use to book more gigs.

But you've got to be thinking the right way. You got to have your program your subtitles, you've got to have a program description, your bio references, no excuses, you can get from your LinkedIn account. use those as leverage of your integrity and your ethics. use that as credibility builders until you're getting more testimonies in the speaking world like you want. demo video, use your phone, record yourself speaking, so on record you so that people can see presenting and get a feel for you. style seven.

Of course, if you write a book, write a book, but the door will open when you demonstrate credibility. So if you send them reports of articles, if you send them a CD, these things will establish credibility and your authority. The book is something that if you're not ready to do one, then don't do one yet. But I found when it comes to books, that books, it fluctuates with a book, you know, I have several books that I've written, I even have a quote book that I've created. So books can help you. But I look at books in the sense of, you know, if I can use a CD to get the same result, I rather use a CD.

I use books, when you're really going after these big big events where they're wanting an author, they're wanting someone that has written something on this topic, but if you write 10 articles, and you turn that into a book you are now and publish author on that topic. So the These are simple things that you can do to be more successful. secret number three is systems where to find speaking games. And really when it comes to finding speaking if this was something that I was constantly searching for trying to figure out trying to find a way. And these are areas that I still explore that I still search, and these are places I still look for gigs and opportunities and directory of association, this is literally a place you can go online and find a directory full of associations with contact information. Number two, all conference comm another place you could go and find people that are looking for speakers and conferences that are going on that you could call them apply.

Number three is speaker match.com. Great place. One of the point person there is Paul, you could call him up. Now this service is a paid service, it could cost you $9 or it can cost you up to $60. But what they do is this which is powerful, you can you join their group. In other words, you just pay your fee.

Just Put in your profile, the type of gigs you're looking for opportunities you're looking for. And then once the system and it kicks out every single day, it kicks out leads to those individuals with specific requests. So like if you say, I'm a motivational speaker, and you put your information in their system, when someone comes to their website looking for a motivational speaker, you will be notified via email, and you will have a chance to apply for that opportunity. And that's very powerful. Because even if you don't book the work, you now have information on a future place that you know, is paying for speakers. And this service is awesome in that context, because every single day, I get leads sent to me of possible speaking opportunities that I can apply for.

It tells me who they are, what the company is, and I've been willing to spend money, valuable asset so you can always give Paul a call telling me you hurt me hurt this whole thing on the Poor Man's Guide to professional speaking webinar, just telling that it'll get you laugh, and then he will help you out. Alright, now for Google Alert, I used to do this with all the time here, I would put in parentheses, I would go to Google Alert the actual site, and then I would go there, I would go and I would type in call for speaker. And I used to get via email through alerts all of these notifications of any organization, really looking for speaker under the call for speaker call for proposal call for papers. And then I got very specific in it like call for speakers insurance call for speakers retail.

So I started getting very specific so that I could get on notified of those events. But the reason I tell you this, that's so powerful, is now you're getting alerted when people are looking for speakers, and that's the key. They're looking for speakers, and these are Jilin big organizations that have these call for speaker notifications. So this is another opportunity to get paid. Number five is Toastmasters. That org If you're listening to this and you're a Toastmaster, you should be presenting at your fall spring or TLS.

These are great places to present. Now they of course, you know, Toastmasters doesn't pay, but of course, people will buy your CDs. They'll buy your books. If you're doing a workshop. There are people that will buy your information. And here's the beautiful thing about Toastmasters, Toastmasters have day jobs.

So in other words, if they hear us present at Toastmasters, and they like you, they could refer you back to their organization and to their company. I have been speaking at Toastmaster conferences and T allies since the start of my time in Toastmasters, because I truly believe in see the power of it. I did a presentation that literally changed my life. Because I did a presentation for Toastmaster fall conference. A woman heard me speak and she got me into the federal government. Once I got into the federal government, I have made hundreds of thousands of dollars every single year speaking In the government, because of one person in Toastmasters, who heard me speak, who worked in the federal government, that's how powerful Toastmasters is, you just don't know who's sitting out there.

My opportunity to be in a TEDx event was because I was presenting at a Toastmaster conference, and a person heard me speak and invited me to be in their TED conference. That's how powerful Toastmasters is, you just don't know what doors can open by you showcasing yourself at Toastmasters. And notice I didn't even say being in the contest. I said, speaking at the fall, and spring and T allies doing workshops, the contests are fine, but it doesn't showcase you and your ability to do a longer presentation. That's why it matters. Number six is conventions and bureaus every town no matter where you're at, listen to this as a convention and bureaus.

If you Google your town, say for example, you were in Iowa, Iowa conventions and bureaus Las Vegas. conventions and bureaus, Kansas City conventions and bureaus wouldn't matter. When you search that out, every one of the states and countries has some form of conventions and bureaus, you go there, you can look and see which conferences are coming to your town. And when you see who's coming to your town, they'll tell you who the person is, who the contact person is, they'll even tell you how many people are gonna be there. You call them up. And you talk to them about being a local speaker that they don't have to pay for travel, but they could give you a fee.

And there you are speaking in your town at the convention center in your area, all because you looked up the conventions that were coming to town, and you call those particular conference people and ask them Could you be one of their speakers. Number seven, of course, is colleges. Colleges are a powerful place to speak. And that's why I list these two here. I've had friends that have done very, very well. So Speaking of the college marketplace, and I use both of these organizations to get themselves in front of the people that can hire them.

That was NACA in a ca.org. And after ap ca.org, each one of these powerful organizations, people come together and these organizations, they have showcases, they have presentations, they have trainings. And this is where you could go to literally get yourself on the map in the college marketplace. And the beautiful thing about speaking in colleges is that every single year, they have new students, which means they can have the same speaker come back on that topic. So that's why these areas here have been very powerful for me. And each one of these areas.

I have book work and I continue to work through each one of these areas here. And I suggest you take a close look at each and every one of them. And really think about like, Where do I find work? That's where you find work. You have to market yourself to these individuals. Each one has its own unique situation.

But each one is capable of helping you book deals and get paid. And finally, I want to share with you one final resource. No matter where you are in the country or the world listening to this class in this training, what you're looking at on the screen right now is a new release. And I want you to go to this website.
