All right, we're wrapping up section four here in our course. And we're going to close this one out with ways that you can minimize distractions and reduce interference. So we've touched on this quite a bit, you've got two different places where you can look in your workbook to find your own distractions, your own sources of interference. The first one is going to be here on this page that we filled out just a little bit ago. Where's your interference come from? And you even started to look at how you can limit your distractions and the interference.

The other place is going to be on your quadrants of importance, those actions that are on the bottom, that are the things that are actually not important for you to be doing in your relationship in your business, towards whatever your growth and development pursuits look like. Okay, so keep those in mind. Keep those handy as you as we go through this. And so a couple of things to kind of, I guess the thought processes that I really like around this is number one, dominate or delegate. Okay? If it's your bottom activity fucking dominate that shit if it's not delegated, okay?

Another delegation kind of memory tool like that is when we do check email you have three DS right and I got this one from Mel Robbins, you're either going to deal with it, you're going to delete it, or you're going to delegate. Email is a huge time suck. And one of the things that we're going to talk about as a way to reduce distractions and interference is to only check email at certain times of the day. If you're working on a computer, don't leave your email or So if it's a gmail tab, if it's outlook, if it's a, if it's its own separate app, don't leave it open on your computer or your laptop, and only check it at certain times of the day. I know that'll be difficult if you're somebody who's used to constantly checking it. So, you know, put it, if it's on your phone, put it in a folder that you hide, on my phone, I have it in a folder that says response required.

And so I know that if I open it, that it's not something that I'm mindlessly scrolling and just checking to see what has come in. But I'm setting that tone in my head, okay, if I'm opening this thing, I'm going to actually respond to whatever has come through, I'm either going to deal with it, I'm going to delete it, or I'm going to delegate it. That has been a huge shift in freeing up my mental bandwidth. And so this is a really important thing to remember is that we all have a finite amount have brain power capacity and energy bandwidth that we can, you know, allocate on a given day. A great example of this is, you know, people like Steve Jobs who have a unicorn, right? waking up and deciding what to wear is the most insignificant choice that Steve Jobs could make on a given day.

Ask yourself, you know, do you really want Steve Jobs worrying about his clothes? Or do you want him trying to figure out the next amazing innovation in technology? What's your bottom of activity? It's probably not figuring out what to wear tomorrow. I that's why I wear a gray v neck t shirt. It's my uniform.

I'm not worried about what to wear. I just throw the uniform on get in front of the camera, do the thing. Wrapping up this this idea of only checking email at certain times. If you have a business where people might expect Expect or want a response quicker than the two times a day that you check email, then you can simply set an automatic response response or reply that, like, Hey, I have I'm a potential customer or client and I email you, I get a response back that says, Hey, Ryan, we appreciate you reaching out to us. At this time, we are, you know, working with our customers and providing them the service that they expect and want from us. We check email at 10am and 4pm every single day, we will get back to you at the next time.

And so right away, you're setting expectations for me about how you do what you do. And as we talked about in in one of the first videos, that's going to help build trust with me, build confidence in me, or my confidence in you, as you make that promise to me and then show up and deliver by Finding when you said you would respond, right, I also can see through your actions that you're not scrolling your phone and checking email when you should be focused on the meeting or the client or whoever's in front of you. So, a couple of other things in minimizing distractions. You know, I'm a huge fan of every notification should be turned off. You don't need notifications. You don't need things and alerts popping up on your computer or on your phone.

I leave my phone in airplane mode or do not disturb mode as often as possible. If you're focusing on your high value activity, if I'm sitting down and writing, I have enough friction or resistance that I have to overcome to sit down and write without worrying about incoming texts or phone calls, or emails or tweets or whatever all the things are right so disable all notices. On your computer and your phone, we already talked about only checking email at certain times. I don't answer phone calls unless they're scheduled. I think this is a huge one. You know, if somebody were to call me and I stop what I'm doing to answer my phone, I'm essentially saying that whatever could possibly come from that phone call is more important than what I'm doing right now.

Maybe it is. But most likely it's not. And everybody that I work with everybody that's in my personal life knows that I don't answer phone. If it's not a scheduled call, the only exception to that is my wife. If we had kids, kids would be the other one. So, you know, take a look at what boundaries you can create.

And how you can kind of set those and communicate those boundaries and expectations to the people on your team, the people that you work with or for your clients, your your vendors, whatever. As long as you communicate that people will understand and you'll actually be training them to get on your calendar and only expect from you to answer the call when it is scheduled. And just like email, you can set up a voicemail that says, hey, you know, thanks for calling, working with clients or doing you know, the work that I do. I return phone calls at this time and this time, I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Again, setting the expectation. Again, phone in airplane mode or do not disturb as often as possible.

No one's scheduled phone calls, don't live in your email inbox. You know, if you do check it deal with a delegated, delete it. Don't check your phone first thing in the morning. I think 46% of Americans and 66% of millennials confess to checking their phones before your feet even hit the ground to start the day. You know, we talked about this in the very first First section with our declarations and, you know, what fills our head? What fills our mind and our thoughts at the beginning of our day, and how powerful that is.

And so, you know, I'm a big fan of not checking our phone first thing in the morning. You know, again, I don't want to overhang on what we already talked about why that's so important. But as you look at your distractions, your interferences, you'll start to see the patterns, you'll start to see the ways that you can optimize your efficiency, your effectiveness and your management of your own actions and time. So, if you have any questions on that, let me know how I can help and I'm going to leave you with one parting thought from one of my favorite writers, Steven pressfield. Pros work, amateurs tweet. Get it done.

Do what you're supposed to do. Do not seek incapacity. do not seek this traction. Okay. All right. So that's it for Section four.

We'll see you in Section five, with some more good stuff on how we can do the work and move ourselves and our missions closer to where we want to be.
