All right, we are getting ready to deep dive into time management and productivity. Nothing determines our success, the results that we're going to get more than the way we spend our time. We said this in one of the very first videos, the difference between where we are now and where we want to be, the choices we make and how we spend our time. So this is a really crucial, crucial portion of what we're doing. And it's not so much just about time as much as it is our habits and how we choose to allocate and spend our time. You know, there's that cliche of, you know, we can't make time we have to find or carve out time.

And it's it's a cliche because it's true. We all have the same 24 hours in a day. Successful people are able to find ways to get things done. unsuccessful people are usually the people who are seeking in capacity. They're distracted. There, you know, clouded by interference.

So whatever it is that you want to do, you can do, we just have to be disciplined and consistent with with our habits and how we spend our time. And that's what we're going to dive into here. So a quick kind of tangent about time management. It is as much about avoiding distractions and as much about what we don't do, as it is what we do do. So much so that I'm going to dedicate an entire video to that. So the next module, the next section here is going to be all about minimizing risk.

Distractions and what we don't do. So I'm not ignoring that that's just, it's gonna get its own video to be a next video. So for now, we're gonna focus on a couple of things. And like I said, this is a big topic. So there's a lot to go through here. We're going to start with a little story about you too and bondo.

And then we're going to go into these quadrants of importance so that we can help you identify what your priorities should be, so that you can focus and execute on the right things. So I get all my notebooks straight over here. So forgive me for that. I'm working off of one of the old ones. It's a little bit out of order. So the page I want you to find is this guy right here says where am I bondo?

Okay, and I'm gonna tell you a little bit of a story here about YouTube's lead singer bond. So a few years ago, YouTube's tour was called the greatest rock show on earth. And there is a YouTube video. I'll put a link to it somewhere here in this module, so you can check out the video. There's a it's a time lapse video that shows and I forget whether it was seven or nine days, but it took seven or nine days to set up the arena that was going to host the concert to hold the concert and then to break everything down and pack out. So throughout that entire seven day process, Bono only appears in this time lapse video for like four hours.

And, you know, he rolls in in his helicopter. A couple hours before the concert, he walks out, he sings he drops the mic, he gets in the helicopter and he flies off to the next show. And so When we when we look at all the things that go into our business, our life, our pursuits, we have to wear multiple hats. The smaller our organization, the more hats we have to wear. If we're a solopreneur, we have to wear all the hats. So it can become very difficult to identify what our priorities should be.

I'll give you an example. The first workshop that we hosted, first better human workshop had a guy, you know, very successful in business, ran the business had some people helping him do it, you know, and he raises his hand and he says, Well, what do I do if everything is a priority? Well, everything can't be a priority. Even the word priority didn't show up in in our vocabulary until very recently. And it's simply the fact that it shows up is a reflection of just how many things are starting to pile up on our to do lists, you know, but if we if we go with the if we operate under the assumption that priorities are a thing. By definition, there can only be a few.

Think about, like a hospital in a triage situation. gunshot wounds are gonna get treated before broken legs, broken legs get treated before paper cuts. We can see it when we look at other people's businesses or there's a great line. I love this line that if we change the content of a conversation, we can change the context. When we look at our own selves, our own businesses, our own relationships, it can be very difficult to to detach from the emotional connections where we're so close to everything that it's hard to see it from that witness that objective that 50,000 foot view right So simply changing the content. So instead of talking about money and talk about drugs, or instead of talking about priorities in your business, you know, talking about medical triage.

So, back to our story, so this guy says everything's a priority. And I'm like, well, that can't be. If we look at the greatest show on on Earth, the YouTube tour, it was a priority to sell tickets, it was a priority to sell merchandise. It's a priority to sell concessions in order for the tour to be a success, right. But those aren't Bono's priorities. Just because something isn't your priority doesn't mean that it's not important to the success of the organization or the ecosystem, the relationship, right?

And so what we're really getting at here is what is your bond or role what can you do that only you can do? What must require what What requires and must have your attention, and then delegate the rest. And again, if we're talking about being a solopreneur, or a small operation, it can be difficult. So you know, you don't have to bring in a full time employee, maybe you find somebody who specializes in writing emails, or you find somebody who is, uh, you know, on Freelancer or Fiverr, you find a virtual assistant and you can pay them, you know, hourly, or you can go on TaskRabbit and find somebody to, you know, compile a list of all the gyms in your area that you're going to reach out to four, you know, whatever the thing is, right? You don't have to have another full time employee to start delegating.

Okay, so I want you to keep that in mind as we start to go through the quadrants of importance when we start to look at all the things on your to do list. If we go back to the YouTube analogy, there was somebody at corporate who oversaw All, all ticket sales, all concessions, all merchandising for the entire tour. And then you had somebody in every single tour stop, who oversaw that event? For ticket sales, ticket sales of the LA show, merchandise at the San Francisco show concessions at the San Diego show, right? And they reported up to the person who ran that for the whole tour. But that's not bottom vanos not trying to, you know, poor beers at the Phoenix concert.

Right? He's got to be on stage doing his thing, or nobody's coming. And that makes the T shirts and the beer irrelevant. So what is your bond of activity? All right, you're gonna hit pause, find this page, and you're better human. workbook right here.

And I want you to identify the thing that only you can do. If you get stuck Stop here. Think about your four aces. If something is one of your four aces, it damn well better be one of your bond Oh activities. So let's identify those, write those down, hit pause, write them down. And I'll see you on the other side of the pause.

All right, so if you have your bond Oh activities, we're now going to move into the next activity. And that is working through the quadrants of importance. So this is in the book. I have, like I said, one of the old workbooks. So my workbook doesn't have this, your workbook is going to have this. And as you look at these, you see, you know, on the bottom of the quadrants, we have the those bottom two are not important.

And on the top we have the important things. So as we talk about your bottom activities and what you're going to delegate, the goal should be to delegate as much as possible from those bottom two. quadrants. The bottom left, or I'm sorry, bottom right is the quadrant of waste. The bottom left is the quadrant of deception. So the quadrant of waste, these are going to be in the very next video, the things that we want to minimize the distractions, the interference, TV, social media, you know, email, whatever, right, and that'll be the next video.

So kind of put that on pause for just a minute. Or put that on a shelf, don't pause the video. So this bottom right, or sorry, bottom left quadrant, the quadrant of deception. These are the things that we think are important, but maybe are not, or things that need to be done, but not by us. And so that's a line of questioning that we can ask ourselves, does this need to be done? Does this or does this need to happen?

Does it need to happen right now? And does this have to happen by me? Am I the one that has to do this? If the answer is yes to all of those, then it's going to go in that top left quadrant, the the pressing, deadline driven things. So an example of that is, let's say we have a podcast that has to come out tomorrow. And we don't have an intro for it.

And I've got to record the intro and get back to the audio guy so he can get it back and loaded, right? Only I can do that I have to do that. And I have to do that today. That goes on my to do list to get done today. You know, if there's anything that needs to be done for next week's show, that's not as urgent and it's not going to be done by me. So it doesn't go on my to do list.

I trust my team. I've empowered them. You know, they all know their roles. It's just like selling the T shirts or the the beers and a YouTube show, right? I'm not doing that. But it's still important.

It's still getting done. So as we've worked through your quadrants of importance, I'm going to turn you loose on this in just a second. But before we do, let's just go Go through this again. So, on the top, we have the important stuff. So top right? These are the things that are urgent.

I'm sorry, they're not urgent, but they are important. So this is me writing new material for bhp shorts. It's me outlining interviews for next month's podcasts. These are things that I have to do. Nobody else is doing these things. But they don't have to be done today.

Okay. And then as we move into the top left, the urgent and important, like I said that stuff that those are the bullet wounds, the things that have to be done right now. And they have to be done by us. So what I want you to do is, you're going to pause this video again, you're going to go in your workbook, and you're going to fill in your quadrants of importance with the activities that you frequently find on your to do list. You know, think about all the things that you do on a daily basis, a weekly basis, a monthly basis. What are your goals?

And responsibilities. And look at this through different lenses, your business, your relationships, your personal development, health, fitness, whatever all the things are that you do start to put these things into the quadrants of importance. And then if you're somebody who struggles with time management if you struggle to prioritize things, how many of these things in the not important area are finding their way to the top of your to do list right, and in some upcoming videos, we're going to talk about how you set up your to do list. And that will become so much easier when you can look at your quadrants of importance and say, these are the things that I should be focusing on. So I'm getting a little bit ahead of myself there. But one other thing to note here with time management, I've got in the book, and you see I've got my placeholder in here.

So there are actually nine essential Essential oils for high performance time management. And so everything that's here in this section of the book is in a blog post that I've linked down below. So I want you to check that one out as well. If you want to go a little bit deeper, some of these are things to do. Some of them are things not to do. And like I said, in the very next video, we're going to talk about minimizing distractions.

I got some really good stuff for you in there. So look, everybody's to do lists and priorities are, are going to be very unique and very different. I think one of the things that is very misunderstood about the bond of story, you know, we want to strive to be bond Oh, app, whatever it is that we do, right? Not all of us are bond. Oh, right. So so I don't want to let's don't downplay or minimize the role of the person who opens sees all concessions for the tour where the person who oversees concessions at the San Diego arena.

Not everybody is bondo, you may not be Bono in the company or the organization that you work with. But how can you be Vivanco or the Michael Jordan of what you do? Right? If you are the Michael Jordan of concessions at San Diego's arena, you don't need to be worried about selling tickets at the Phoenix show for you to be you need to be worried about all the things that make your job hum and run perfectly, and support your business and your customers and the people who depend on you. So if you need help, if you have questions on setting up your priorities and what your focus should be, definitely let me know. I want to help you.

Make sure that you nail this and can work through this. So Hit pause, or actually no hit pause because we've already talked to the pause so you're just as we finished this video, fill in your quadrants of importance, and I will see you in the next video where we talk about how you can minimize distractions and reduce interference.
