Hi there, welcome to the module on shortcuts. I'm going to give you a few hints on some tools you can use just with the keyboard to make some changes in your design. So it'll be quick and sometimes it's easier to do the keyboard shortcuts than to use your mouse to do everything. So let's get started. The first thing we're going to do is I just have this basic design, and I'm going to show you how to copy text. If you want to duplicate the text you already done.
All you do is highlight and then on your keyboard, you press Ctrl C. So then what you do next, in order to get that copy, is you click out. insert another text box, and then you're going to press Ctrl V, and it'll paste the text right in there. If you did want to copy an entire text box the same exact way All you do is highlight it, go up here to more and do copy, and it will copy the exact formatting. What we're going to do next is just cut text. So you can just highlight and press Ctrl x. And then you can press Ctrl V to put it back in.
The next tip is Ctrl A. So say we wanted to select all the text boxes, all the pictures, everything in your design, all you have to do is Ctrl A and it selects everything. And you can group it, you can copy it. That's a pretty handy tool. The next tip is if you want to undo something, so say you wanted to see what this looked like if it was left justified. So you go up here, click on left justified.
You say oh, I don't really love that. Sorry. to do is Ctrl Z No, bring it back to where it was. But if you liked it and you wanted to try it again, you can redo it and do Ctrl Shift z, and it'll bring it back to left justified. If you want to drop in some text, say you want to add a new text box, all you have to do is press T on your keyboard, it drops it right in, it'll automatically add a little bit of body text the smallest one, but you can easily change the font size up here. Then if we wanted to find something, all you have to do is press Control question, and it'll bring you right over here to the search bar.
And you could type in whatever you need. For the next one. If you wanted to move your text boxes around a little, you have to click on the box. Make sure it's outlined in the dotted lines. And then if you wanted to move it up a little all you do is Press Control up arrow, and you can move it down, you see how I'm moving it, I'm just holding down the control key, pushing up and down. Now if you wanted to move it a little farther a little quicker than you would just do shift, so move it, it's actually the difference between moving at one pixel and moving at 10 pixels.
So control moves at one pixel, and shift moves at 10 pixels. And it works the same way back and forth. Then if you wanted to group your items, what you do is you click on one text box, hold down Shift, and then click on another. And you can see up here, it'll group or another way to do it is click and pull the cursor all the way down. But what that does is it also includes the Picture Box, so that can get a little tricky. That's why sometimes I'll just use the click and then just Shift and click the other boxes and then you can group whatever you're interested in grouping.
If you wanted to change the case, to uppercase or lowercase, you would just highlight whatever text it is you're interested in changing. And then do Ctrl Shift K, and then I'll do it upper and lower. And also, you can always use just the button. If you are looking to move a textbox or an item up or down in layers, you would just press Ctrl and then the bracket so you can see over here, as I do it, it'll show where it is in the layers. So right now, it's behind the picture. And then if you bring it back, now it's up on top, those little dots show you where you are.
If you want to zoom in and out on just the keyboard, you just press Ctrl plus or Ctrl minus and then I'll toggle in between the different size to give you a little more detail of your design. If you want to see the grid in your design, you'll click Control semi colon, and that would bring up the grid behind it. So you can actually see how everything is lined up, if it's even, and it looks like things are pretty even in this. And then the last thing, which is pretty cool is if you wanted to make a little more space in between specific characters, you would just press Alt, and then use whatever arrow so I'm pressing the right arrow with the alt press down so you could see space between m and y is getting bigger. And then if I wanted to make it smaller, you just press ALT and then the arrow again.
So it only works for wherever the cursor is. So those are the shortcuts are very handy. And as you use Canva more you'll get used to it and you'll get quicker at using them. I'm also including A tip sheet for you in this module so that you can print it out and have it nearby when you want to use the shortcuts it will be easy to refer to. So that is the module on shortcuts on the keyboard.
