We are back with toolbar basics. And in this module we're going to talk about everything you need to know to use the toolbar effectively within your designs when you're creating them. So what we're going to start with is the basics up here. After you log in, and you pick a design that you want to create, I've just created this basic design to show you some elements that you can use. So we're going to start with file up here. and resize your design as part of Canva for work, so that's not something that we have access to in the free version.

But you can save and you can make a copy of your designs. That's what that is. And it's also helpful to see up here the actual sizing of your design so that if you wanted to create a new one, you know exactly how big it is. The next button is undo which is always helpful. It's pretty self explanatory. If you do something you just click it it will undo it.

And there's also redo right next to it. And then there's the help. That's always a great option to click, you can kind of put in any question you might have are pretty resourceful over a Canva. Over here, it tells you when you've changed things that they're saved. So that's always helpful as well. Right here is share.

So if you wanted to share your design with someone, you could either do it by email, or you can just do it by a link. And you can pick whether you want them to be able to edit it, or if they can just view it. So that's always helpful as well. Then finally, we have the download. There are four different ways to download in jpg, png, PDF, which is standard version of it, or PDF print PDF print is a little clearer so that when you print it out, it looks nicer. So let's get started on the more detailed toolbar.

So this is a design that I created just for practicing purposes. And as you can see, when you click on a box that has text in it, or sometimes when it's a picture, the toolbar will pop up for you. So this is the font. And these are all the different fonts that you could use in your design. And they're all free. As you can see down here, if you want to upload your own fonts, that's part of Canva for work as well.

So for the free version, you just have access to the free fonts which are more than enough. There's many to choose from. And you have the sizing you can always change the size of your font within a design. The only thing is you cannot have more than one different size in a textbox. So if you want it to Create another text box with the word writing in it and overlay it, you can make that a different size font, make it a little more varied. The next box is the color of your font.

And when you click on the color that it is currently, the default palette will show up. So these were all the colors in your document already, they help you kind of match it up if you wanted to. And then these are a default palette that they offer, which you can kind of start working with and then tweak as you go to make it more your style. And then these are the monochromatic colors. So you have white and black and then variations of gray in between. So if you wanted to add a specific color that you use, you could just click on the plus sign.

And then you could put the actual hex color code in here. Every color has a color code, you could Google hex color code And they'll give you a bazillion combination of colors. And if you find one that you like you can always put that color code number in, and then you have access in it in all your designs. The next button is bold. So you would just highlight, click B, and then it would bold in your design makes it stand out a little more. The one after that is italics.

So again, you would highlight, click and drag, and then press the I for Italic and you can do that for just certain elements within your design. You don't have to do bold and italic for the entire design for it to be applied. So the I'm just going to undo that and then the next one is text alignment. So within your design, you could either left justified Right justify it or put it in the center. And it just depends on your sensibility, what you like how you like things to look. So I'm just going to center that.

The next button in the toolbar is kind of cool. It's it, what it will do is it will change your font from lowercase to uppercase or uppercase to lowercase. So that just changed it all to uppercase, that can be kind of overwhelming. So you want to be careful when you use this in any designs because it can look like you're shouting. And then this is a list so you can create a bulleted list within your design. So if you click on it, it will bullet each line that you have.

You can see it started right here. So I'm going to undo that. That's helpful when you're doing worksheets and checklists. Then the next one is texts spacing. This is a great tool when you want to change the amount of space between both the letters of a word, as well as the lines in a design. So I'll show you what I mean.

What you want to do is just highlight the word and then you would go to letter spacing. And it does it for the whole, it actually does it for the whole design because it's all one text box. If you wanted to do individual text boxes, then you could kind of create different effects with the letter spacing. And then if you wanted to change the line height, you would just use it this way, make it go up higher, or pull it down lower and it brings it together. The term for the space in between each letter is called kerning. So that's what you're stretching out.

The kerning in between each letter. And then this is a little smorgasbord over here. If you click on More, will give you options to either copy the text box, which is great when you want to create an effect, say you wanted to change the color of the text in the textbox. And then you wanted to just layer it a little bit, seconds, a little bit of a shadow effect, but you actually would want the white probably behind it. So then you go back over to more and then arrange allows you to change where each text box is in a design as far as front and back. So you would just click on back and that would send the white text to the back.

So then you could kind of move it around a little again and gives an interest effect, you can just play around with it and see what you like. So that shows you the arrange it brings things forward and back. And then transparency. Let's, I'm going to delete the white text box, because I want to show you the transparency effect. And we have black writing. So when you pull the transparency down, you can see it kind of starts to fade.

So that's really effective. If you wanted to put like a, an entire square behind the creative workshops. Some people like to, I'm just adding a square, and then we'll arrange it back. But we also don't want it to be so bright. So we kind of make it a little faded, right? So that kind of gives you a little bit of a focus in the design.

Without overtaking the whole design. So that's a great use of transparency. And then, so I'm just going to delete the white box behind the text. So I can show you the link option. So the link option is generally for PDFs. And it will allow you to include a hyperlink in your PDF to go to a different website.

So you would just highlight a text box, you can only include one link for each text box. So if you click on link, usually it doesn't pop up right there, but I was practicing it before. So you just put in your link and then click Apply. Then you're going to go up here, this is the design title, and they kind of just put in a basic title for you. I'm going to go up here and click Save. Just so I know that the link was included and it says Here are all changes saved.

And then I'm going to download, I'm going to download PDF for print, because that's the way that that hyperlink will be included in my design. So just take a moment and then if you use any paid elements in this for any of the pictures, then they will show you here that it will be charged to your credit card. You have to enter all that into your profile. So here it is, we're opening up the PDF. And I'm just going to scroll down. And as you can see, when I hover over the this text box, it shows that little hand which shows it's a hyperlink.

So then if you click on it, it will bring you to my website. So that is always a great option to use the hyperlink. And then of course we have the delete button so any element that you have highlighted is going to be deleted when you hit the trashcan. Then down here, we have the options to zoom in, so that you can kind of line things up if you like. It's a lot easier to do it when you're zoomed in, or you can zoom out. And also, if you're creating a presentation and you have slides, you can hit that button and it'll show you how the slides look.

Once they're done. And you just press Escape to get out of that. Another option you have is to group items. And how you would do that is you would click on one text element, you could hold down shift and then click the other and you could see how it brought all these lines in together. So it was basically one design. And then in the toolbar, you just click on group to band it together.

So what that does is it will allow you to link different text boxes or images. and move them together. So you don't have to do it individually. It's a huge time saver when you have five different text boxes in a design, and you just want to move each one of them up a little bit. You can group them, and then you can move it all together. You just have to remember that when you want to make a change to them, you go to more you can do ungroup and then it'll make them individual text boxes again, or you can make a copy and make a copy of the entire cluster of boxes.

So that is the basics of the toolbar. See you in the next module.
