Nutrition needs for your child to 24 months old can look a little bit different than when he was six to 12 months old. And he's calcium needs increased to 700 milligrams starting at one year old. We want to make sure that they're getting enough calcium. Generally if they are eating or drinking two servings of dairy products they will be meeting very calcium meets one serving of dairy products or one cup of hormone milk, one cup of full fat yogurt, three ounces of cheese, or they can get cancer from other sources like tofu, almond and sesame butter, beans, peas and lentils formula is no longer needed after one year old because baby can meet the nutrition needs from food. So we recommend introducing hormone milk at this age, but you want to limit milk to no more than two to three. cups of tea, two cups of milk will meet their calcium needs.

But more than three cups a day can fill up their stomach with too much milk and cause them to have other types of the train deficiency and not have enough room for other foods. If you are still using formula for some reason after one year old formula would be counted towards milk intake. And so milk and formula combined should be less than three cups a day plant based beverages like coconut milk, rice milk, almond milk, soy milk, they're generally inadequate to meet baby's needs for the first two years of life because they need extra fat protein and some of these vitamins and milk so if your baby has milk, dairy allergy, we'll be talking more about this in the olive tree module. These are comparisons between cow's milk and other Milk beverages. goat's milk is pretty similar to milk except that they're low mp 12. So you'll need to meet their b 12 and other sources in their diet.

But otherwise soy milk, almond milk coconut milk are not suitable for baby under two years old because they don't provide enough fat protein and calories for baby to be meeting their needs. And fats are super important at this age because baby is still going through a lot of brain development and brain growth. So you want to get them the source of EPA th a from fatty fish, seafood and fortify eggs in their diets. In general baby can meet their protein needs if they are eating two servings of dairy products. After one year old babies for me goes up to about About 3.5 cuts of fluid per day. So if baby is drinking two cups of milk, then it would only be about a cup and a half of water to meet his fluid needs.

After one year old, you can start offering water in between meals and snacking throughout the day, especially with hot weather. You want to make sure that they're well hydrated. You want to be avoiding sugary drinks and drinks that have caffeine in them. So for example, any caffeinated tea coffee, coke soft drinks that would have caffeine and sugar in them. If you are offering juice to baby it shouldn't be on a daily basis because juice also contains a lot of sugar. And if you do offer choose for baby limit to about half a cup a day.

After one year old baby's kidneys can handle a bit more sodium. Gentle Canadian diets, our sodium intake would be more than enough to meet our needs. So you still want to be minimizing the other salt after one year old in a in a typical Canadian diet. Most of our sodium comes from processed packaged food or restaurant meals. About 77% of our salt intake comes from processed foods, packaged food, or restaurant meals. 12% occurs naturally in food like bread, some fruits and vegetables would also have sodium in them some neat grains 6% is added to cooking or meal preparation and 5% are added at the table.

So really, the bulk of the sodium intake in our diet is from processed packaged food and restaurant meals. Vitamin A needs are quite similar to when they were six to 12 months. So again, Offering are choosing the orange fruits and vegetables and dark green leafy vegetables everyday will help make sure that they're meeting their vitamin A needs is the one to be avoiding foods that can be too much in vitamin A like liver and fish liver oil for baby. I don't need skills a little bit lower from one to three year old at seven milligrams. But from four to 10 the iron it goes up again so pay attention to that you still want to continue introducing a variety of iron rich foods to get them used to these foods. Because there needs to go up again you want to be offering a source of iron rich foods at every meal.

Vitamin D needs go up after one year old. Again. It's very hard to meet based on diet alone and we don't get enough sun and it's not safe to get enough sun to get Vitamin D needs. You still want to be offering the 400 iu of vitamin D drop everyday
