Hello, sunshine. I hope you're doing well today, because we're going to be covering, finding the time to write emails and what to say. But first, as a quick recap, in our last video we discussed why it's more important to collect your fans email addresses, then their social media followings the difference between newsletters and emails, and how we're going to take the best parts of business emails, give them a fabulous authentic artists makeover and make them uniquely ours. So let's start right out of the gate by tackling the biggest issue I hear when talking to artists. Where does one find the time? Well, as we discussed earlier, emails to fans are not newsletters.

Newsletters are long and rambling and full of links that send fans in different directions. They're overwhelming and by making too many calls to action within the same email, it dies dilutes the sense of importance of your main call to action, the main ask. I've been guilty of this in the past, when I first started an email list, I would list and link every single blog post. And in those days, I had the time to write eight per month in a monthly email, I look back and I cringe. I learned that the key to being effective in sharing the messages I want to share is to keep things tight and focused, tight focused and part of your record's schedule. Like catching up with a friend is not a chore.

And it's that mindset switch along with not feeling like you have to recount every single thing that suddenly gives you that time. A bonus side effect to that is you'll have far more things to talk about than if you just spread them out. Just like social media posts. Remember that you're having a conversation with music lovers who want to keep up with you on your journey, not standing up on a soapbox with a megaphone, shouting at passers by To buy your album conversational, and non salesy emails to fans are a fantastic way to give a more intimate trusting vibe and a perfect place to get let them get to know you better. Some great places to start finding things to say are telling your life stories. asking your fans questions about themselves, showing your fans behind the scenes of what you're up to.

For more specific ideas and writing prompts, I've included a downloadable worksheet that lists 100 ideas of non sales themed emails to send to fans, you can grab it at the end of this video. Now, when you do have something important to ask fans to do, such as buy tickets to your tour, contribute to your crowdfunding campaign, buy your album. Of course, you should write to them and ask. It's just important to never be an email inbox mooch aka, that friend who only reaches out when they want money. I'm sure You've known one, how often you send emails to your fans is between you and them. Feel free to send out a survey to get them or feedback.

Making them happy is more important than any arbitrary rule on the internet. The important thing is consistency. Don't send out a bunch of emails within days and then disappear for six months. But you're smart, you know that. So as a brief summary of this lesson, here's what we discussed. You want to keep the emails you send your fans tight and focused.

Not all your emails should be sales pitches, don't be the inbox moods. And it's important to be consistent with the conversation frequency, but how often you actually send them is between your fans and you because you know your fan base better than anyone else. Reach out to your fans and ask them how often they would like to receive emails from you.
