Welcome to lecture 36. This is the final lecture of Six Sigma measure face. This is in continuation of our previous lecture. In this lecture, we will cover the other process capabilities indices such as BP ppk and BPM as well as assess process capability. We will also describe long term and short term process capability understand the concept of 1.5 sigma shift in long term profit performance is similar to process capability indices. The major Process Performance indices are Process Performance Index, BB potential process capability ppk major difference between process capability and Process Performance our process capability is the long term capability and calculated with known mean and standard deviation if standard deviation is not known, we can also estimate it based on sample standard deviation when the process is To be in statistical control the Process Performance Index is also calculated with sample standard deviation and for short period of time.

However, the process may not be in a state of statistical control the steps to calculate the Process Performance Index are measure the standard deviation of bosses and compare it with customers specification for products. p p, is equals to specification with divided by process with That is us l minus SL divided by UCL minus l CL which comes as six standard deviation or six s PP equals to us l minus l s l divided by six s similar to CPK we can find out p PK, where the processes not centered equation is same as we found the CPK I repeat the same thing sample that I have used in the previous lectures, the ppk values, we got our 0.83 and 1.67 respectively we need to take the minimum of ppk for measuring the potential process capability the ppk equals to 0.83 What are long term and short term process capabilities often process capability indices, CP and CPK are considered as long term capability Process Performance indices BP and BBK are considered as short term capability.

Other way of defining short and long capability could be for short term anything less than 30 days of production run for long term everything after 30 days of production run there is a relation between the long term and the short term capabilities found by the Six Sigma originators. Long term variability is equals to short term variable Plus 1.5 sigma shift, it is assumed that the process will drift or shift plus minus 1.5 sigma in the long run as shown in the illustration. Do you know theoretically, the Six Sigma capability refers to two parts per billion opportunities, but why it was referred as 3.4 defects per million opportunities and all the Six Sigma projects. This is by considering the long term process shift. When this drift is taken into account, Six Sigma equates to 3.4 Db ammo. Otherwise, theoretically 4.5 sigma equates to 3.4 DPM all the above discussed capability studies are related to continuous data.

However, many of the times data collected are of discrete in nature such as number of defects, defects, defective units, percent defective etc. There are other methods such as HR, np HR, you HR, etc They will be discussed in detail in improving And control phase dp mo is one way of finding process capabilities for attributes DPM all calculation have been explained in lecture of section two a process operating at Six Sigma level will produce only 3.4 defective parts per million opportunities DB mo The table below depicts the DP mo and corresponding quality percentage for any process operating at different sigma levels. For example, the process operating in plus minus one sigma the D PMO will be 697 thousand and 700 process operating in plus minus three sigma the D PMO is expected to be 66,800 and the process operating in plus minus six sigma the DPM is 3.4 Let us learn the steps for conducting the process capability study.

General way is select the quality characteristics of interest confirm the measurement system is capable gather data in 25 to 30, uniformly sized subgroups.
