DESCRIPTION: Glutathione is an important antioxidant and redox buffer which is involved in multiple metabolic pathways in the roots of different plant species. The subcellular compartments in which glutathione is stored is important for the functioning of plant cells. Using gold immunohistochemistry, scientists were able to label glutathione particles within the plant cells of various different plants, including Arabiodopsis, Cucurbita and Nicotiana. Figure one shows the distribution of glutathione the leaves and roots of these plants through gold immunohistochemistry.
