Have you selected a niche where you can build a true global reputation? I talked about going global in earlier lectures. But it's critically important in today's age, where people can Google you and anyone else and have at their fingertips, experts freelancers from any part of the world at a moment's notice. So are you comfortable with the idea of really building an international reputation? It's not that hard facts. It's sometimes easier.
I know that every time I train in another country and come back, the people in my own country, United States are nicer to me and treat me with more respect. When I went over to Europe and trained a Nobel Prize winner when I came back to the United States, people treated me with more respect. I wasn't training any better than I was before, but simply the fact that I had more international exposure perience boosted credentials. The other thing that some of you will find if you have the sort of expertise that will take you to other countries is, the further away you go from home. The more people respect you, the out of town authority is respected more than the guy or the woman down the hall from us even when the advice is exactly the same. What I have found, believe it or not, when I'm training someone in my home city of New York City, having them meet me for dinner the night before, almost impossible, having them stay after the day of training for a drink or dinner.
Very rare, but if I go to another continent, will they'll treat me as if I were hero. They'll have dinner for me the night before. Sometimes a party and my honor Believe it or not. They will have dinner afterwards. They Often arrange tours for me if I'm in Cairo, my clients got me Egyptologist and drivers and gave me tours of the whole area. The further away you go from home, as a freelancer expert, the more people will respect you them more, they're nicer to you.
So that's one of the interesting things about having a truly global perspective and developing a global reputation. If you have a section on your website, which we'll talk about, and you should have testimonials and references, it looks so much better. To have people from different continents completely different industries. Different countries, all over the world will make anyone even if it's a prospect, two blocks away from you feel much more comfortable with you the idea that you've been vetted on the whole world stage for your area of expertise makes everyone feel more comfortable about number one hiring you. Number two, paying you the fee you want and deserve
